Re: Why is Pakistan’s army chief all over social media?
Oh yes he’s doing a lot of good things. Pakistani nation who is one of the biggest victims of terrorism really values high public and troops’ morale which we need to fight the enemies. If Gen Raheel or anyone installs bit of hope and self belief coupled with good performance to achieve victory, he will get full support and praise from Pakistanis. Some people just need to stomach this simple fact.
There are two types of people who cannot stand Gen Raheel’s popularity: terrorists and the desi liberals/political elite. Otherwise vast majority of Pakistanis have all their well wishes behind him, and they are not afraid of praising for being really good at his job. Like I said, wars are won by high public morale. So good for Gen Raheel for introducing some kind of momentum.
One is free to search Twitter and Facebook to find badly made fanboy memes to cry wolf and use it against a national institution, but these people usually have an agenda, and a part of the agenda is to make the Army chief into a really controversial personality or paint him as a boogeyman.
A twitter hashtag is a massive insult to those who have major chip on their shoulder in regards to Army over ethnic and political reasons. But for actual Pakistanis, lives goes a lot beyond Twitter and Facebook.
