Re: Why is Pakistan's army chief all over social media?
So some petty little Pakistanis still crying about a highly efficient Army's chief popularity on social media - yes social media? Get a life. The countries that actually invented social media don't even take it that seriously. Your newspapers like Dawn and Express Tribune have never written a single dedicated piece to give him full credit for all his services so get the hell over it.
All those petty little Pakistanis sitting outside of Pakistan throwing ***** fist about an Army's chief's being seen as a 'messiah', it was only over two years ago that your country was on the brink of becoming another Libya, Syria, Iraq, Yemen with absolutely no control over the terrorist situation. So you have to be a pathetic little prejudiced hater who is too blind to see that it literally took one man's leadership - yes only one man's leadership and authority to completely turn the whole situation around. Are you really that petty and prejudiced that you think Pakistanis do not deserve to thank another fellow Pakistani for ending their decade long violent misery?
Your prejudiced little mind may not tolerate Gen Raheel getting the due praise and respect, but Pakistan's history and nation's memory will remember him for being a fine soldier who snatched a victory from the jaws of defeat and rescued a wounded nation from the death bed. Respectable nations acknowledge and honour their high achievers.
You have problem when a man in uniform is rightly praised on social media for being so damn good at his job, but you have even bigger problem when a democrat like Imran Khan is popular on social media for just being better than the others. So get a life. Your hypocrisy is pathetic. Likes of you will never ever be happy in any case. I can see how sitting in US/UK everything about Pakistan probably starts and ends at Twitter and Facebook....I can understand happens to all of us.
Re: Why is Pakistan's army chief all over social media?
its hard to believe that people have gone to the extent of worshiping Raheel Sharif. This image is instead, created by anti-army social media brigade, for the sarcasm or whatever they like.
Agreed that's it is being used as a lame excuse by inherently prejudiced section of the society to gang up on the Army and Gen Raheel in the name of 'sarcasm'. A twat's logic would say, let's go and turn Gen Raheel a really controversial figure or turn him into a boogeyman because of some over the top tweets. A normal person's logic would say, over the top tweets? Big freaking deal, it is social media, where a certain group paints a murderer like Altaf Hussain a saint, so yes there is always a fringe minority that takes things to the next level on social media, but they are not worth intellectualising at all.
Pakistanis are not stupid, they have their reasons for thanking the general, but you have the stupidest person on earth to think Pakistanis are being led to praise the general because of some tweets. They say: actions speak louder than words.

There is a dialogue in a Abhishek Bachchan &Aishvarya starrer movie Guru " jab log tumhare khilaaf bolne lage..samajh lo tarakki kar rahe ho". Usually with popularity, sarcasm, opposition and such things follow.
Re: Why is Pakistan's army chief all over social media?
Quite proud to say this....I don't fall for it. I didn't fall for 'when everyone decided to change their profile to rainbow flag, never bought the Raheel Sharif Messiah Thing, and didn't change it to French flag either when 85% of my fb buddies did. Just goes to show majority of people are sheep and will follow trends without questioning.

Mind you, Altaf Hussain gained popularity even before the arrival of social media. Got to give him credit for it.

Then what about Taliban support from northern areas? do you remember you has been criticizing Pakistanis in general over liking Afghan Taliban? so why dont you give credit to Afghan Taliban if not TTP?

So did Bhuttos. Mujib ur Rehman managed to wage a whole movement without twitter or Facebook. Imran was still a larger than life celebrity athlete and made Shaukat Khanom before social media. Of course there was a whole world before the arrival of social media. If you said things that made sense or achieved milestones, you were bound to gain popularity amongst public in the absence of free media, let alone social media.
Re: Why is Pakistan’s army chief all over social media?
The point it that is beyond pathetic to sit in US/UK, pick on some tastelessly made memes presumably by teenagers on twitter (or the anti lobby for trolling purposes) and quickly start contributing to a contemptuously mocking campaign against a Pakistani Army chief who hasn’t set a foot wrong and whose every action is helping his own country. Other than soothing your own racial, regional, political or classist prejudice, what do you gain from contemptuously ridiculing a professional man who is leading his country towards now a foreseeable victory against war once popularly described as ‘unwinnable’? He may or may not even be there in an year’s time, so what exactly is your beef?
People who know now get ulcers in their chest whenever see thankyouraheelsharif](http://www.paklinks.com/gs/usertag.php?do=list&action=hash&hash=ThankYouRaheelSharif) hashtag, you lot are exactly the people who called this war a ‘war of survival’ and were convinced that it would take nothing less than a miracle to bounce back from an abyss. So what the hell did you think, someone would appear on the big stage, show some leadership, bring back peace and normalcy and somehow the war tired, war bruised Pakistanis won’t see him the best thing to have happened to them in a long time? Really? How were to expecting Pakistanis to react?
I can also follow your example and hand pick some disgustingly racist tweets by American teenagers and quickly paint America as a Nazi sheethole based on bunch of tweets, and lead a knee jerk bandwagon and pretend that sky has just fallen. But this is where common sense comes in and you see social media nothing more than just a dump ground and graffiti on the wall by anonymous people with varying intelligence level. Negativity of social media cannot be used to discredit genuine causes and undermine ground realities.
Sitting in the safe heavens of UK/US, it might be thrilling to take the piss out a dedicated solider, but I think Pakistanis know the real importance of thanking a man whose leadership and very personal initiatives against all odds had saved many many precious life, and this is coming from a person who was convinced that this war would result in a Syria like situation. There’s now a sense of peace from Karachi to Khyber to Balochistan in such a short spam of time - good for Pakistanis if they want to thank him. Some things in life are very well deserved.
Re: Why is Pakistan's army chief all over social media?
Reason is quite simple, and has stood true for decades....same reason why people rejoice when army takes over, but bemoan when it overstays its welcome. People want democracy as its supposed to be run by civilians, but want institutions as they are run by the army.
If civilian parties clean up their act, and let institutions run as they are supposed to, and stop commandeering police, NAB, FIA and FBR for their own personal gains, then people will effectively forget army rule, and will not welcome it when it comes.

Oh yes he's doing a lot of good things. Pakistani nation who is one of the biggest victims of terrorism really values high public and troops' morale which we need to fight the enemies. If Gen Raheel or anyone installs bit of hope and self belief coupled with good performance to achieve victory, he will get full support and praise from Pakistanis. Some people just need to stomach this simple fact.
There are two types of people who cannot stand Gen Raheel's popularity: terrorists and the desi liberals/political elite. Otherwise vast majority of Pakistanis have all their well wishes behind him, and they are not afraid of praising for being really good at his job. Like I said, wars are won by high public morale. So good for Gen Raheel for introducing some kind of momentum.
One is free to search Twitter and Facebook to find badly made fanboy memes to cry wolf and use it against a national institution, but these people usually have an agenda, and a part of the agenda is to make the Army chief into a really controversial personality or paint him as a boogeyman.
A twitter hashtag is a massive insult to those who have major chip on their shoulder in regards to Army over ethnic and political reasons. But for actual Pakistanis, lives goes a lot beyond Twitter and Facebook.
Re: Why is Pakistan's army chief all over social media?
@Jolie If a person is honest and efficient at his job I think nothing wrong in praising him/her. No wonder he gets such a vast popular support for his sincere efforts.
Re: Why is Pakistan's army chief all over social media?
@Jolie As a scientist Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam enjoyed popularity, earned love and respect for his work. He won presidential election with handsome votes and known as people's President. If Gen. Raheel Shariff enjoys charisma that is earned through work then what is wrong in it?
