Music being haram is not mentioned clearly in Quran like the prohibition of consumption of pork and wine, perhaps that's why people have different opinions about it.
I do agree and respect the sentiment that you follow a system and that's it. I just wanted to point out that the lack of questioning becomes a problem when the rules arent clear on whats haraam and whats not.
If rules are not coming between me and my human rights, I may question them, or least may not follow them. But when rules are just asking for certain discipline and that is, I dont see any reason why not to follow them without question. So 4 marriages are allowed (well its an allowance and not a requirement) but I see it as disloaylt to me wife so I will never do that. 5 times prayers is a discipline and just like I dont make a left turn when it says 'no left turn', I like to follow this rule too.
tlk, analogies are weird creatures. i guess more people jump red lights than commit murder.
i guess my question is is music as haram as pork or alcohol? i don't see it having the same level of taboo. why is that?
Lets take an analogy at face value and not compare 2 analogies .. :D
Haramness has levels. There are harams that are minor sins, then there are that are major sins, and then there are that will revoke your Muslim status.
But then again, why we not eat pork but listen to music. 1 reason.
There is no confusion between pork and alcohol being haram in any school of thought amongst Muslims. Music however, because of some half baked mullahs, get the status of being a controversial issue so people enjoy it/avoid it per personal consent.
Music is not Haram at all, and I challenge any Muslim who believes it is haram to back up their claims with evidence from ONLY official source which is the Quran. A lot of Islamic Mullah's like to spread their own propaganda and say stuff like Music is Haram and unfortunately Muslims just blindly follow them and don't check for themselves.
Show me a single verse in the Quran where it says Music is forbidden. Is there any? Nope, none at all. Therefore music is not haram. Yet many scholars and Mullah's will preach that it is.
It doesn't make sense for Music to be forbidden, because then TV becomes Haram too, Computer becomes haram, cell phone becomes haram, and many other things.
