Why is Harry Potter so Popular?

it sell like crazy. I don’t get the attraction myself.
I liked the movies but as to the books, I’ve never been able to force myself to finish one.
What got you into the stories?

Re: Why is Harry Potter so Popular?

In my opinion, the Lord of the Ring is much, much better than Harry Potter in many respects. Still, I do like HP, and can see why it's so popular.

First of all, it's fun to read. Rowling has a great sense of humour, and her characters are very realistic, even if the plot or the events are based on fantasy. The themes in the book are universal: friendship, loyality, bravery, love, haterd, good vs. evil etc. and so on. Because of that, many people can relate with it.

Secondly, we all like to indulge our imagination, and Rowling creates an alternate world that is convincing, and delightful at the same time.

Thirdly, the movies were awful...books were good. But I ddin't like the last book at all. It was so poor as compared to the others. I feel, that the first 4 books were best.

Re: Why is Harry Potter so Popular?

Because the storyline appeals to all ages and is universal. Children, teenagers and even adults. Also the writing may not be that great but it is detailed and easy to read/understand.

The movies are only popular due to the immense success of the books but they do not do them justice. How could they leave out Peeves for example?!

Re: Why is Harry Potter so Popular?

I will definitely be reading Harry Potter series to my children one day inshAllah - not only is it creative and entertaining, it gets children to read it over and over again because of all the goodness in the children's characters. The message about diversity, acceptance, etc. etc.

Dont forget Winky!!!

I think its because Harry doesnt have a mam and dad and thats just sad. Plus, she made up a lot of cool stuff, like Hogsmeade. I really want to visit Hosgmeade. I also want to marry Hagrid. I also want a wand. Last one, I also want to own a pet snake who eats people I dont like!

Re: Why is Harry Potter so Popular?

I love the aura, the names… oo Hagrid. What a unique name…and Hogwarts and Hermoine :hayaa:

Just that silly real yet magical set up is thrilling enough to get you through.

i agree

Re: Why is Harry Potter so Popular?

There is suspense in harry potter books. Films are not as good

Re: Why is Harry Potter so Popular?

lotsa purdy pictures in the books maybe?

I love the Harry Potter books! In some ways his life experiences were enormously relateable e.g. sports practice, doing homework, thinking about girls, mean teahcers, friends etc - and children, teenages and adults were reading them!

I loved the complexity of her books and her beautiful style of writing. She always nailed it on humour esp' the twins character Fred and George. I was always particularly awed of her skill in plotting. Reading the seventh book, I was struck by how many details go all the way back to the first book.

I think the theme on death, loss, desire, melancholy, longing for love, the unresolved open-endedness of grief and love, the magical world, the ordinariness of being compassionate, the ordinariness of being extraordinary among so many other things make her books a classic.

The magical world she has created keeps you intrigued throughout the books! :)

Writing not that great?! Whaaat?! You have to be kidding? Hehe! Or are you talking about her actual hand writing?

Otherwise, J K Rowling's has a superb talent for writing and a strong attention to detail. Her writing is absolutely incredibly which is what delighted all her fans! :)

Re: Why is Harry Potter so Popular?

I read few chapters of the first book of HP and didn't find it interesting, the language is very easy and almost dumbed down so no way I'm gonna read it to my kids....for the same reason I chucked "Spiderwick chronicles" away.

And never liked HP even before learning that the most good and pious person Dumbledoor is supposed to be a homosexual.

Re: Why is Harry Potter so Popular?

^ I gotta' agree with that last bit because that was quite upsetting for me for J K Rowling to annouce and so unnessesary! She shouldn't have done that!

I never actually read the last cool. Only read half of it. By that time i was into urdu books too much, english i found boring so i left it like that

I didnt know you were an HP fan.

My best friend got me into it -
Althought i’ve not read the books yet – I do enjoy the movies.

Re: Why is Harry Potter so Popular?

Well books are ten times more enjoyable i guess. Read in your own time and pace. Best thing is books

Re: Why is Harry Potter so Popular?

I tried - but I couldnt get past the “i’m reading a kiddie book syndrom”

*it was a disaster *

Re: Why is Harry Potter so Popular?

The fourth one was so good written. Last three were rubbish. She spreaded the story too much. I couldnt understand last part of book 5 about the prophecy and all that.
It started with kiddie books but finished adulty lol
