Re: Why is everyone on Pakistani TV so fair?
Quite a few Pakistani's have fair complexion, not just in dramas but everywhere you go or see around....girls and ladies have fair skin.

Re: Why is everyone on Pakistani TV so fair?
I think for the same reason that most bollywood actresses look/are fair.
Re: Why is everyone on Pakistani TV so fair?
i've also thought about this, bollywood ppl also have a very light complexion compared to the regular ppl that you for instance see on the streets on their news channels.. but again that could be due to the sun exposure nd whatnot.
Re: Why is everyone on Pakistani TV so fair?
i'd like to know what miracle makeup they're using to change their skin tone completely like that, you can still see the difference between the face and the rest of the body unless they apply it to the whole body which would be quite expensive and even lighting can only do so much
they might just have a rule for only hiring fair skinned women and men for their shows and that's not really discrimination in south asia, they can get away with so much prejudice if it's done subtly, the fair&lovely commercials are a purrrfect example
Re: Why is everyone on Pakistani TV so fair?
I was thinking this a while ago too . I think make-up and lighting does play a part ...

I'm not talking about overseas. I am actually referring to people in Pakistan. Are they all really that fair? The people on TV look so perfect at times they don't look Pakistani even.

I don't think anyone on Humsafer special or in the serial itself looked Caucasian fair. But yes, from my personal experiences in various parts of Northern Punjab (I'm deliberately excluding Northern Areas aka Khyber Pakhtoonkha here), I'd say its perfectly common for Pakistani women to be anywhere from lighter to medium end of olive complexion. So if you're at the lighter end of olive skin tone, then a shade or two lighter foundation and intense lighting is enough to make you look 'fair'. I've actually seen plenty of naturally creamy/ivory looking girls in big colleges of Lahore and Islamabad and they were definitely not the products of foundation or any cosmetic procedures. So yes its not uncommon at all to come across fair skinned Pakistanis in Pakistan (at least for me).
Re: Why is everyone on Pakistani TV so fair?
^yah but NOT EVERYONE on TV can be fair..:S
I agree with the OP. Pakistan television hardly ever have darker complexion women. I would love to see darker girls in dramas..so boring to see all fair complexions.

Re: Why is everyone on Pakistani TV so fair?
I think with dozens of channels now, we do see tan and even quite dark skinned ladies. In yesteryears most people who passed casting and got to Tv were fair.
Reason: We all know that desis have biased against dark skin especially when it comes to women.
Sunita Marshall is actually very dark and after loads of makeup her complexion looks olive. Same with Gia Ali. Amina Sheikh is dark too.
Generally people in Punjab are lighter compared to people from Sindh and Blochistan. Where as in NWFP people are light skinned, and light eyes/hair. Its just the geographical change in skin tones and nothing more.
Re: Why is everyone on Pakistani TV so fair?
Nandita Bose, Konkana Sen Sharma, Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgun are some examples of the positive outcomes when skin color is not used as a criterion in the entertainment industry.
Re: Why is everyone on Pakistani TV so fair?
In pakistan mostly girls are fair though (so on paki tv too) & if they are not they use those “magic creams” ![]()
Re: Why is everyone on Pakistani TV so fair?
Another example is nimrah bucha and arosa (sukhi from takay ki barat).
Re: Why is everyone on Pakistani TV so fair?
Suhaee Abroo. I absolutely love her in Sanjha

The thing with the Bollywood lot is, that they seem to have gotten fairer over the years. SRK is a perfect example of this - perhaps an advance in technical equipment and lighting really does play a part.

Talking of lighting - we were having a video conference. My white colleague's face was very clearly visible, while my face appeared artificially darker. That led me to believe out here in the west, the lighting is adjusted to make a paler shade clearer, and in Bollywood, the lighting may be adjusted to make a darker shade lighter.
Rani Mukherjee and Kajol are other examples of actresses that are not fair, and may not have got consideration 2 decades ago.
Re: Why is everyone on Pakistani TV so fair?
There are some sanwali salonis on t.v. these days, which is a nice change ....
Amina Shaikh Syra Yousuf (she's actually Afghani) Sanam Saeed Isha Noor
no, she is pathan.
Re: Why is everyone on Pakistani TV so fair?

One thing I bet that has stayed consistent is that she was always a blight of a sight.

Not sure if they bother with it for dramas but in a lot of films they do use body makeup.. In normal light it can look a bit ashy..you see a lot of the celebs use it for red carpet events as well.. Apart from that like others have said foundation a couple of shades too light and lighting (and I don't doubt many of them bleach or 'brighten' their skintones.. hydroquinone creams, peels, laser treatments etc).. Lighting can make a lot of difference as well, strong lighting/a camera flash can make a person look a lot paler..
Even Aishwarya was a normal olive tone in her childhood, teenage and early modelling photos.. she only turned milky white when she became more successful.. (and is it me or since marriage has she toned it down a bit?)..
Re: Why is everyone on Pakistani TV so fair?
There's simply no such thing as fair Pakistani woman, right? Its impossible, if you see one, consider her a walking talking miracle and praise the Lord.
Some of you should consider a proper extended travelling to Pakistan.
