Why i am not a muslim!!!

Re: Why i am not a muslim!!!

yah dont pay for it, why put $$ in their pockets?

Peace,
Faith needs to have a basis in reason; at least that is my standpoint. Simply not reading someone's work and avoiding to understand his/her perspective shows lack of courage to look at the so-called "fitna" in the eye.

As for Ibn Warraq; he has been a victim of closed mindedness... born and raised in a conservative household, he may have tried to ask some tough questions and must have been shot down. Eventually he developed a kind of closed mindedness of his own which is reflected in his works.

Regardless of how academic he tries to portray himself, he is bound to have an "ideological axe to grind" with what people generally refer to as "Islam".

It's available in local libraries (unless you're living in muslim countries)... why would you want to pay for it?

hmm i would think reading books is about pleasure or knowledge, if u think its worth ur while go for it. read it and then look for answers if u end up with questions.

Re: Why i am not a muslim!!!

I think the whole issue here is asking questions about ones religion. Indeed there are many things in Islam that cannot be rationalized and we accept as faith. Thats that faith is. Some people argue that asking too many questions could be the reason why the christian faith is becoming less popular and why many people in these countries has stopped believing in an organized religion!

Questioning is GOOD - and if you cannot find rationale for living a good peaceful life (i.e being muslim and hopefully mu'min) then there's something wrong with the picture.

I would like to add that if you are going to quote the parable of the cow (baqarah) then that is different in that the E'hud tried to split hairs in terms of customs and rituals (the slaughter of a cow to do away and ask for forgiveness for social crimes is an ancient jewish custom).

Re: Why i am not a muslim!!!

^ I hv been to that road, I am a better Muslim now. But journey was painful.
I did it because I did lose faith.

Re: Why i am not a muslim!!!

i was not quoting the Quran...i was just saying that maybe more questioning may lead away from ones religion as it is evident in todays western society!

There's no confirmation that Ibn Warraq is a real person.

but rather is a propeganda device with zionist roots.

Yeah man, I doubt Ibn Warraq is a real person.

It does seem like Zionist propoganda.

I know it's fashionable amongst Pakis to keep bringing Zionist propoganda up but there is a lot of truth to it.

Recently an anti-Islam CD was distributed in the USA with newspapers, it was made and distributed by rich Zionist people who paid millions for it.

The Zionist owned newspapers defended the choice to feature it in the name of "free speech".

What jerks, hatred against Muslims/Islam is free speech but a word against anyone else racism.

Even justified and legitimate criticism of Zionists is Anti-Semiticism! I'm getting sick of the anti-Semiticism rant.

A Muslim says a word against Israeli opression in Palestine and everyone in US of America start foaming at their mouths and label it "hate speech" and "anti-semiticism". Err Palestinian Arabs r Semites too.

Zionists think they can get away with everything because of what the Nazis once did to Jews, fair enough it was horrific but it's no excuse to do it to others and get away with it...

The Jewish lobby, like the Indians do everything in their power to put Muslims/Islam down.

Caucasian Christians are not bad at heart but they're simple and sometimes manipulated by Indians and Zionists to also hate on Muslims.

I think oil rich Arab Sheikhs should make a counter CD against Zionism, it should feature all the juicy stuff from the Torah and Talmud and how the Zionists justify their persecution of Palestinian Muslims and Christians.

There's some right juicy stuff in the Talmud which will open the eyes of Caucasian Christian Goyim (Gentiles) to what they think of them.

I use to have Jewophillia, loved 'em, there's some cute Jews about, especially Sephardi and Mizrahi Jews and their culture is so much like Muslim culture, the Samaritan sect even pray like us but when I read about stuff like the CD thing I realise they don't like us, same with Indians, I like them the most out of all ethnic groups because of cultural similarities but they hate us.

I think Islamophobia is somewhat acceptable in the USA whilst back home in Britain you can get shot for some of the things people in USA can get away with. In Britain people are usually Islam-freindly, even the head of The Church of England said nice things about Islam, His Royal Highness Prince Charles has also said positive things about Islam, that's the kind of thing that makes me proud of being a British Muslim. I don't know why there is more anti-Islamism in the States especially since American Muslims are usally very patriotic and westernised (at least my American relatives are), British Muslims are sometimes shameful and I wish they'd get their act together but despite this Britian is good to us.

I'll stop, I've gone wayy off tangent.

Re: Why i am not a muslim!!!

not sure if you are in the States but I have not seen a similar Indian lobby in US and a lot of Indians like most immigrants were agsint Zionist agenda like the Iraq war and Guanganmo. Just to be fair.

well said!

Re: Why i am not a muslim!!!

not so simple!

Well then there's no real confirmation that I'm real either... the point is that someone does publish under this pen-name and the guy who is shown as receiving awards and echoing the sentiments of these books while claiming to be Ibn Warraq does make him "real". BTW he does look Pakistani.

I know you weren't at that point, but that means that my example of the cow parable becomes even more relevant.

It is not about entertainment... it is about understanding and appreciating the writer's perspective and if he is wrong, to understand why and how you think he is wrong. Furthermore, Iman has to have a basis in reason: Otherwise one is no different than those who blindly follow.

Re: Why i am not a muslim!!!

dont read it

its a threat to ur imaan, we may say that our imaan should be strong, but what if its not??
why risk such a thing as ur imaann!! what if ur imaan goes down a wonky road, and Allah na kare, u lose ur life, how will u answer Allah? i mean we dont know what the future holds for us...

please dont read it

our imaans too precious to put on risk

Re: Why i am not a muslim!!!

a book is noted for its credibility, based on its author/ess's credibility.
so, if you feel that a book is not credible, you can judge that by the track record and thesis of the writer.

OK I think this book is crap and completely illogical (I've read parts of it) and thought the arguments were not logical and going toward a real agenda. As I said its not a person who sincerly left a faith like Bertrand Russel's I am not a Christian. If you have Iman, I doubt a bood can be a threat to it, if you iman is that week...God help you buddy!
