Re: Why has wedding planning become so obsessive
I am sorry SGC that my comment hit a nerve. It was just an opinion and not an attack on anybody, heaven forbid.
What I said came from personal experiance with a long list of friends and relatives who are no doubt mulitalented educated ladies but have had the most pitiful experiances regading in-laws and husbands. I never meant to trivialize any effort as a wedding day is the most important occasion in a person's life and they are entitled to do anything they want.
As for being unfair to Pakistani men, SGC, I am a doctor and work in a public hospital where I have to deal with a hundered patients everyday. I do get to hear a lot that most people wouldn't even dream about. It is not general but most men living here have a very one track mind regarding women (Imagine a lady doctor trying to convince every other patient's husband, on a daily basis, not to blame his wife for bearing a daughter and the very fact does not allow him the right to have a second marriage).
Again, SGC, I never meant to hurt anybody by my statement. I know that you had a lovely wedding and that you worked hard to make it a success. You certainly deserved kudos for that. It was just an off hand staement and if you think that is damaging on the GS part, I'll happily remove it, if I can figure out how.
Hope you have forgiven me.

Re: Why has wedding planning become so obsessive
Femme fatale: Yes I did have a thread but I was upset because my photography or videography wasnt good. I didnt care about wedding favours and little things like that which people hardly remember. I Think money should be spent on a decent photographer I never said anything about that.
I think its pretty rude what you said about me having pics taken. Its got nothing to do with the topic. I had those pics taken for my mum as she wanted some nice pics of me that she could hang on her wall in her house.

somegroovychick: How many people attended your wedding?
Re: Why has wedding planning become so obsessive
Aisha: Sorry I didnt understand what you meant there?
Re: Why has wedding planning become so obsessive
To be honest I only started having regrets when I joined this forum, I never used to before.
Re: Why has wedding planning become so obsessive
Sorry aisha, I get it now:) Fasting is getting to me now
Re: Why has wedding planning become so obsessive
ami, wedding favors are for the guests...the kind who appreciate them...who are YOUR well wishers...they did you a favor by taking time out of their schedule to attend a very special day in your life...so in my opinion..a favor is is well due.
I think I might have said this before...it is unfortunate that after inviting 500 guests at a wedding, only a 100 will actually appreciate it. Which is why it is not sensible to invite such guests in the first place. I have tons of favors stuffed in my drawer.....some couples I didnt even know personally...but I loved being at their wedding..
judging from all the statements that favors are not remembered...or they are such a waste..I think the reality of less and less people truly being happy for you is becoming more and more true these days!! so ladies..make sure you plan out your guest list wisely... :)
Re: Why has wedding planning become so obsessive
well said chanda
ppl who want favours will have them, those who don't, won't have them - but the fashion for favours oly started a few years ago, they may not have been around ami123's time i think.
Re: Why has wedding planning become so obsessive
no silsila I dont think they were, I think its a new trend but white people have them at their weddings alot
Re: Why has wedding planning become so obsessive
true and the reason they have them is what chanda_kh has described above. I think favours are a good idea as they are table decs as well!
Re: Why has wedding planning become so obsessive
But its better giving wedding favours to very close friends and family who appreciate them and not waste money and give them to the entire 400 or so people
Re: Why has wedding planning become so obsessive
Just a friendly word, 3 posts in a row are not allowed :) That is called flooding :)
Oh well that is good if you got it :)
Re: Why has wedding planning become so obsessive
but wedding favours are not that expensive ami123. Some are such as candles etc etc, but asain ppl dont tend to use them as much because of the cost, we use stuff like sugared almonds, mints etc. My favours for 250 cost about 50.00 pounds and the sweets were about 10.00 which is not expensive at all. when i watch my wedding video, its so good to see ppl opening them up and having a sweet whilst all the festivities are going on. I did the same for my mehndi, I had cute little yellow/gold boxes with sweets in, which ppl had whilst wathcing the dances!
Re: Why has wedding planning become so obsessive
wow really? for 250 people in just 50 quid? that is cheap!
Why has wedding planning become so obsessive
women and their ultra materialistic values.
