Re: Why has husband been given this much of a right?
I think it's an amazing Hadith, truly a way for husband and wife to come together as one. But such respect is earned not automatically given to any husband.

This is utter kufr, where did you hear this nonsense?
Re: Why has husband been given this much of a right?
few things -
no human is prostrating infront of any other human. so i dont know how much of a good idea it is to be offended on something that is not ordered and the saying that has completly different meaning than shirk - the hadith itself is from Al-tirmidhi narrated by abu hurayrh
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 285 Narrated by Abu Hurayrah
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: ‘Had it been permissible that a person may prostrate himself before another, I would have ordered that a wife should prostrate herself before her husband.’
someone can question the following hadith too on the same basis
The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: “If there were to be a Prophet after me, it would have been Umar (Al-Khattab).”
if someone wants a decent justification/explanation - athough we shouldnt try to justify/explain any verse from quran or hadith from prophet here is a link
exp verses from s. nissa and baqarah

Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 285Narrated by Abu Hurayrah
**
**The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Had it been permissible that a person may prostrate himself before another, I would have ordered that a wife should prostrate herself before her husband.'
**This is a hadith which is held authentic. But there are countless other hadith which emphasise on the rights of wives over their husbands. People conveniently ignore those and quote this out of context (now that is jahiliyat)
Al-Tirmidhi Hadith 278Narrated by Abu Hurayrah
***The Prophet (saws) said: The most perfect Muslim in the matter of faith is one who has excellent behaviour; and the best among you are those who behave best towards their wives.
***For instance this authentic hadith also deems the same importance as the one quoted above but sadly like I said 'Religion of Convenience' has evolved. People pick what suits them, focus only on their rights given by Islam and foregoing their own duties/responsibilities
Re: Why has husband been given this much of a right?
I read this hadith some where: "* If I were to order anyone to prostrate to anyone else, I would order woman to prostrate to her husband due to the greatness of his right over her."*
It has confused me why is it that the husband has been given this many rights or what is it that they do that our religion focuses this much on a woman attending to her husband? The biggest miracle is of child birth and women go through that even then husbands are told to be greater in every way.
Please don't take it personally, nor is it a religious debate (else i would've opened it in religion forum). Its merely for understanding what is it that makes husbands receive the highest stature?
**many rights **were granted at the cost of **responsibilities.

Re: Why has husband been given this much of a right?
Here is The hadith for husbands
"The best among you are those who are best to their wives." Narrated in Ibn Majah, #1978, and Al-Tirmizi, #3895
if there are a number of duties/orders for wives then there are a number of duties and orders for husbands as well - islam is flawless
Re: Why has husband been given this much of a right?
Its dangerous, very naive and quite frankly useless to just pick out a sentence long Hadith and see how it fits with the modern social standards. You do know the hadiths in proper authentic hadith books come with pages and pages long context, explanation, and implication from time of Prophet Muhammad pbuh to further interpretation of modern schoars. You are better off consulting a scholar or reading a authentic book yourself, instead of asking for explanation here.
Exactly. It's like Saudis removing the verses of Burda from Masjid-e-Nabwi's walls and calling it shirk *and haram *purely because they misunderstood the poetry, or didn't understand it at all.
I see no difference between Saudi zealots and some modernists. They're too shallow and take everything literally.
Re: Why has husband been given this much of a right?
this is a very authentic hadith backed up with reliable sources
yea? prove it..
Re: Why has husband been given this much of a right?
you cannot be judgement without knowing the whole story
and here is another point, if you dont take things literally (say) then every individidual has and can come with with its own meaning - so you have to be careful islam has one message and should be understood by all in exactly the same way

This is utter kufr, where did you hear this nonsense?
Before you start issuing Kufr fatwas, let me tell you its a credible/authentic hadees and it starts with '**Had it been permissible'
**and to OP, every right comes with a responsibility.
and finally, Always try to find out the context of the hadees and Quran. Dont just take one sentence and beat the hell out of it.
Re: Why has husband been given this much of a right?
so you want to go back ~1400 years to find out what time & day it was when it was said?
i did.

I agree. My point was that explaining Hadith and sunnah to modernists is like bhains kay aagay been bajana. Like you can't take poetry literally, you can't accept or reject a hadith just because it doesn't make sense to you.
Re: Why has husband been given this much of a right?

why not :@: just kidding, yaaar.
Some people give itsy bitsy details of hadeeth as if they witnessed it, but that's another topic.
Re: Why has husband been given this much of a right?
Well, you have to see the hadith in context to a husband's role in Islam, if I try to apply this hadith on my own husband then I feel no shame in saying that I would definitely do that if it was obligatory. He takes care of me, honours me, listens to me...who else deserves my respect and love if he doesn't?
and this man is not your parent or sibling......so for him to look after you in so many ways and to give you the physical and emotional attention that you crave as a human being is well worthy of the respect that Allah has bestowed upon him.

That is the reason why after Allah, the rights of a mother are of the most importance...Why is jannah under the feet of mothers and not fathers?
Women have many rights but we sadly don't focus on what we have. Instead we focus on rights of others.

She is talking about husband vs wife.........not father vs mother......
also......extending to what you said............ Paradise is under mother's feet not wife ......
next thread could be.......
why MIL is given such a great honor and not the wife??
Re: Why has husband been given this much of a right?
^^ OK, so regarding rights of a husband over the rights of a wife, I think the hadeeth stems from roles that have been designated...
