Well, you have to see the hadith in context to a husband’s role in Islam, if I try to apply this hadith on my own husband then I feel no shame in saying that I would definitely do that if it was obligatory. He takes care of me, honours me, listens to me…who else deserves my respect and love if he doesn’t?

and this man is not your parent or sibling…so for him to look after you in so many ways and to give you the physical and emotional attention that you crave as a human being is well worthy of the respect that Allah has bestowed upon him.
