WHY girls work?

Re: WHY girls work?

You say your reasons are not the selfish self-protective measures that so many desi women are taking these days? The I’ll-have-this-kick-arse-career-in-case-something-bad-happens-so-that-I-can-still-make-a-thick-salary-and-afford-all-those-bling-bling-ghagras-lenghas?

This is your response to Impulse’s statement:

"
if god forbid the guy turns out to be an “asshole” or dies, then if she is educated, she can easily get a job. doesnt mean she has to work whilst she is happily living with him…"

Notice the “in the first place” in your response. These sorts of comments are where I’m getting my impressions from.

Re: WHY girls work?

PCG, courtroom or no courtroom, why are you so hellbent on making your viewpoint about her getting a seat or not. It's her perogative as to what she does with her career/life, none of your business, get over it.

Re: WHY girls work?

i know loads of people not just desi's who have studied and then got a job in completely different area....isnt that wasting seats? and then its like for that stage of one's life, the time when typically most people of a similar age group are at uni, it makes sense to just continue with ur studies in something you enjoy with a potentional career opportunity in it if you want to eventually work....hell we should question 5 year old girls...what do u wnat to do when ur older? oh be a mother? right well ur taking up the place of someone whose going use her education......doh! its not right to condemn someone as a seat waster simply because they want to choose whether to work, its not a must to work! but that doesnt mean one doesnt have the right to study...hell i think we should be pattin ourselves on the back that we are in uni...studyin our lil behinds off :) and at the end of the day we are lucky to be living in a time when we have choices...we can opt to enjoy motherhood in different ways that suit us!

education is important regardless of the choices u make. having an education will no doubt benefit a mother who makes the choice to stay home....that doesnt just mean looking after babies thats running and organising a household...that **** takes brains man! but just cos someone's educatied doesnt mean they will be any good at it either.......:D WHO KNOWS!

any keep learning...life is all about learning.....thru education thru motherhood thru working :)

Re: WHY girls work?

yes of course..but i also mentioned my other reason as well. i want 2 be able to provide for my family in the evident that i become a sole provider. i dont see anything wrong with that. i dont see why anyone in their right mind would see anything wrong with that!

Re: WHY girls work?

yea “just”…my family will be my priority…first and foremost. since i dont have a family of my own (ie kids, hubby) as of yet. in the meantime i want to educate myself the way I see fit. it’s really none of ur business as to how i go about doing it..i dont see why u feel the need to argue about this since it’s not your life.

In fact i would hate to live your life because it seems to me that you’ve had a bad past which has left you so angry and bitter about everything.

Re: WHY girls work?

^ so woman who choose to work don't have their priorities right? stupid really!!

Re: WHY girls work?

perhaps u cant read english! i said **MY **priority.

damn u guys love to jump the gun! dont put words in my mouth.

Re: WHY girls work?

If someone wants to do a PhD and sit at home, let them. Its their money, tiem and effort and if their family is more important to them than career then let it be. I dont see how they are hurting us.

I agree that we need more muslim women representation in the workforce but we cant put em down for not wanting to. If they can afford to stay home then let em, whats ur problem?

Re: WHY girls work?

u guys need to lay off angel eyes..

Re: WHY girls work?

I agree. this is exactly what PCG is trying to say

Re: WHY girls work?

PCG....I agree with AngelEyes....the way you're talking it seems like you have had a bitter past. is that so?

Re: WHY girls work?

:rotfl:

i think there is nothing wrong with women working but sure matters wat type of job ur talking about. for instance i wont really appreciate my wifey working under some desi freak as personal secretery or somethin like that.

AND its a NO-NO if her job is huddling up our social lyfe and dont tel me if i cud help raising kids . i sure will pay my part but m not cleaning their nappies now without any emergency situation u knw

my parents have the same opinion

Re: WHY girls work?

i agree…but mostly i dont want my job to affect my personal life with my husband and family. working for a law firm does that for sure. i rather volunteer my time for a good cause …when u volunteer u can devote whatever time you have and you do it for free…i get sawaab that way 2:D …

family is happy..im happy…and Allah is pleased!

Re: WHY girls work?

^ ANGEL ive asked this before .. do u have any ynger sister :p

Re: WHY girls work?

Or a brother? Or r u secretly a man??? :bummer:

Re: WHY girls work?

I know Dutch converts who gave up their jobs and chose to stay at home. Not all are mothers. I know one who has no children, she had a fine job in a hospital job and stopped working. She now works with other converts (some of do have kids) in an Islamic group, they don't earn money with it but try to spread the message of Islam and interest muslim chlidren and other sisters to learn more about our religion.

They are fine with giving up their careers and very happy.

Re: WHY girls work?

^ The fact that they're still working in an Islamic group still means they're doing something with their life. We dont like to label it so, but working in an Islamic group and doing dawah IS a career. You don't have to get paid necessarily. Just do something. Don't sit on your bum all day watching GEO.

Re: WHY girls work?

I guess it is a career in a way. Only here the aim is not to make a career. If the aim here would have been to have a career, one of them for example wouldn't have given up her job in that hospital lab.

Their aim is just the dawah and they always continue, right now they have money problems with their society and lost their 'office' . so they don't have a huge space anymore for a lot of people and they now have meetings for women once a week in each others appartments turn by turn.

Yet they continue and continue without complaining. Because even in their own homes they can still do their dawah which is what it was all about in the first place. They jsut had to let go a lot of interesting activities. I admire that, they really have poured their heart into it and it doesn't get in the way of their personal lifes at all.

Re: WHY girls work?

There is a big difference between a career and a job.

By career, I mean pursuing that which really matters to you. A salary is just a perk benefit.

Re: WHY girls work?

pcg i think we should get married  - By career, I mean pursuing that which really matters to you. A salary is just a perk benefit. :claps:

lollypop man :~) let me know when you are done selling your lollypop business…
