Why Don't Pakis Watch Their Own Movies?

Alibeta, I dont think it is 99 percent...I would definitely say that in Karachi, a majority is crzy over indian movies...but even there, its not a whopping 99 percent.

If taking a sample from my middle class clifton neighborhood in Karachi, I would say maybe 60 percent, with the other 40 percent going only for american entertainment and a majority of that 60 percent watches both indian and pakistani and english...

This is probably different according to the areas in Karachi and other cities and towns/villages in Pakistan.

Auntie jee, it was not alibeta who stated that 99% pakistanis watch them… It was Mr. India Asif Khan…

Asif_k, lets start again… J/K
No, didnt see the movie, just went in the cinema in the US where it was being played, saw a bit of it, then came out." **

Well, this misconception was built by some of my pakistani friends, they only said that Indian movies are very popular in Pakistan and almost everyone watches Indian movies, plus they keep showing it on CABLE also. I have to double check with my pakistani friends once again.

You amuse me a lot, How can we think of Pakistani people as Extremists, when we have got friends and relatives over there. No, we dont think it’s done because it has anything to do with Islam, it is all politics.

Crazyladki :- Did any of us ever say that we dont listen to pakistani music ? I myself am a big fan of Farida Khanum,Nayyara Noor,Sabri Brothers, Late Fusrat Fateh Ali Khan Saheb and many other pakistani artists. Same way you are wrong when you say that Indian music/singers S!ck, perhaps you have never listened to Indian music. We have our own Rafis/Latas etc. About Pakistani artists singing in Indian movies, well its a two way street - Nazia hasan became a superstar after she sang in Hindi movies, Same was with Junoon, Nusrat khan saheb was hardly recognized in pakistan untill he was recognized by us. About the pakistani Dramas - I dont think Indians in India watch them, Only one we were aware of was ‘Baqra Qishton pe’.

AK

oh so he’s mr. india , huh

isn’t funny – all these sort of comments, regardless of what the topic is, seem to come out of indian people.

Well, i wont disagree with you asif khan on the hypocrisy part- we have that in Pakistan, and I’m sure you guys in India understand as the phenomenon is quite rampant in India too

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/wink.gif

But I dont think its hypocrisy on the govt’s part to put the ban up…the govt really isn’t the one “exporting” pakistani music–those are private dealers. Also, Pakistani musicians themselves , without the permission of the Pakistani govt go to India for concerts and album releases. So its actually the Indian companies that are responsible for Paksitani music’s promotion in India, not the Pakistani govt.

well I know that Indians watch Pakistani Dramas because all my Indian friends are crazy for Pakistani Dramas ....they have seen even the ones that I haven't...and you are so wrong about our singers being famous after singing in India...they been famous...maybe u were not aware of it...

Asif Baby, that still does not imply I live in the US, I just go there every year for just a month... Quite frankly, I have no intentions of going to great lengths to prove I live in Pakistan, so youre just gonna have to take my word for it, I LIVE IN PAKISTAN.

Well, all your other Indian brothers (if u want I can give their nicks) accuse us of being terrorists, extremists, militants, fanatics, mollahs or whatever... It might not be apparent in this forum, but in other ones, like pak affairs, yes it is... They even say things about themselves "We are Indians first and Muslims second", Sheesh!!

I dont know but those particular friends of your in Karachi might be obsessed with Indian movies for some reason. If they like a Mr. India like you, then I can understand. Btw, trust me, cable operators cannot show Indian movies, and this has been the case for a long time. As for movies running all day, let me explain that. They have their own VCD/DVD channels which they broadcast. What they do is, they play a movie and it keeps playing all day repeatedly. They have about 10 channels like this, and they keep playing movies repeatedly. Pakistani dramas, movies, English movies etc keep on playing too, this does not necessarily mean that they are in great demand.

I never said you live in USA, I said you went to watch a movie in USA (and your response was, you dont live in US, and in a way denied watching the movie )and in the Interval just hopped to the Indian theater, please tell me where they run pakistani movies in USA. Accept it you were caught red handed and you go to watch Indian movies.

CrazyLadki, Take the example of JUNOON, they were not very popular in pakistan, but after they returned from India tour (where they won MTV artist year award, I think) they became very popular despite pak govt propaganda of them being anti-pakistani. Go and watch their shoe on VH1.
Same can be said about Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan Saheb. Even Ghulam Ali and Mehndi Hasan are more popular in India than in Pakistan.

Dude you don't live in Pakistan...so how are u gonna tell me...whats going on in Pakland...you do know anything...so stop talking about the stuff you don't know.

I think the standard of Indian movies has gone down now. In the past few months i have watched some new movies, and honestly there was hardly any movie that i could say i enjoyed it. Most of them were all typical and so stupid and at the end of 3 hrs its gives me big headache.

umm...being an avid junoon fan, i can honestly tell you that junoon didn't become popular in pakistan after their india tour. They became popular worldwide, yes, after they began touring and winning international awards and it was a gradual entering into the limelight...the india tour did not catalyze it, except within india itself. The india tour was done actually because already within india there was huge fan support and demand for a concert.

Junoon was making music for a while, and their popularity took off with the album ehtesaab in which the saeein song was featured. And it was precisely this song which introduced them into the sufi-rock era of their career. Before that, they had not experimented with sufism and even if they had, they didn't quite get it right until "saeein" (means master or something in sindhi).

And it is the blend of sufism and rock and what not in ehtesaab that set them apart from their earlier work and other bands. Pakistan was crzy about the band after this album and india concert came after.

they are really vulgour and baqwaas movies!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Junoon became famous in Pakistna after they visited India hahahahahahaa! Get to know the facts then talk Asif!

You can laugh, but the fact is Junoon was formed in early 90s and how many hits they had until 98 when they toured India - just one (or two if you count ehtesaab) and they were banned, their music was considered blasphemous . But after 1998, they became the best band of South Asia. Better watch VH1 program 'Islamabad : Rock City', You will hear this from Salman himself.

AK

PS :- While posting this mesg I checked your profile and found that you yourself dont live in Pakistan either.
