Why Don't Pakis Watch Their Own Movies?

It never ceases to amuse me, watching Pakis curse India and everything Indian and yet lap up Indian Movies at the same time!!

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/biggrin.gif

Now, since Pakis went to the extent of watching INDIAN movies rather than thier own, my guess is their own movies must be really pathetic.

My question is why?

  1. Money? I don’t think so. Dumping money is no sure way to a successful movie, though Money is required.

  2. Culture?

Your comments are welcome!!

You are right Andhra, that is one reason I am ashamed of being a Pakistani, one day you are cursing them out because they are killing your Muslim brothers in Gujrat and the next day, they are going to their local Indian film store to rent Indian movies, to support India.
What a shame!!

Money is a huge part of making a quality movie, but sometimes low budget American movies steal the spotlight as well but in the subcontinent it is a must to have bunch money going towards making a real good movie, which Pakistan lacks, they always had less support from the crowd which taking them to make less money and to invest in making more quality movies.

Im the other end, India is selling thier movies to Billion in their own country and spreading there fame in other countries like Afghanistan and Africa, instead of making the profit, they invest in the industry thus making better movies.

If you go back 40 years from now, both the India movies and the Pakistani movies were of the same quality, sometimes you couldn't even tell the difference but then for the past 3 decades Indian movies have made thier way into Pakistan for more publicity and making more money.

Culture, I don't think thats the problem even the Molvis are not worried about the vulgarity in Pakistan film industry because they know no one watches them.

I hope I answered your questions.

ummmmm!
Because Pakistani films are pathetic! I am not going to get into a nationalistic arguement here. For me I appreciate good performing arts! By the way Indian movies are not that big in Pakistan. Its more of a hype thingi.

some Indian movies are good and some are bad! Why not watch good Indian movies. Lets not bring politics into this!

If you have a problem with Indian movies being watched by Pakistani people go talk to the distributors who send the movies to Pakistan! Waisay agar hum dekh rahay hain movies, I would really like to know that aap ko kya takleef hay Andhra or you just want to argue over here.

Please refer to my pics under Chalo Ishq Larain, Yeh dil aap ka hua, and pyar hi pyar mein

the industry is going places.

AliBeta, you are Welcome I am sure as every Paki is to watch Bollywood movies.
Infact you are one of their steadiest sources of Income!!!

I was just wondering about the cultural reasons for the phenomenon.
I know Pakistanis ar epatriotic, so given a reasonable choice, I don’t think they will watch Indian movies.

I was wondering, why not Egyptian movies or something, if you have to have foreign movies?

andhra how many times have u raised this same topic and how many times have we given u the same responses?

Dont u have anything better to do with your time?

Lemme say something: Indian films are popular because the industry is standardized. In Pakistan, films are like our dirty little secret (And watching them confirms it!). I would be a better fan of regional cinema as Punjabi films are really big. Although Punjabi is my primary language, I have no interest in watching them because the plotlines are ciched and violent. Pashto films are the same times two in vulgarity.

I think Pakistani cinema should really take a unique approach (I'm sure pyari knows some examples) and it should move away from the current plotlines. Another thing, Pakistanis watch Indian movies because of the cultural/language affinities, so watching Eygptian films wouldn't really be the same. Personally, I don't like Pakistani or Indian films, both genres don't work for me. I'm big on music and yes, I love Indian Punjabi singers.

Yep, Andhra, we have 3 main film areas: Urdu films (used to be really popular and have bursts of popularity now and then even now), Punjabi films (if you've seen Maula Jatt you've seen em all), and Pushto films (yes, those are dirty secrets of Pakistan).

By the way, does anyone know of films made in Balochi or Sindhi? Do we have any regional industry in those provinces??

I feel especially bad for Pushto movies, becuz those movies dont do any justice to the real NWFP culture. Its really sad what they're producing.

Punjabi and Urdu movies are comparably much more clean, and I dont know about others here , but Urdu movies hold a lot of potential. I've seen some real nice urdu movies lately, that were lacking a bit on the technical side, but the scripts were well written.

I swaer to God I watch indian movies when i wanna laugh or bore myself to death LOL.
Indian movies are even below then the Pakistani "stage" dramas.
Pakistani dramas RULE all the way.

I have my doubts. I think music industry is more developed (if you consider it developed at all) for Baluchi or Sindhi films. Pyari, if you do get any info on them, please do drop me a line because I would love to see them!

Umair..
How does someone elses action cause you to be ashamed of being a Pakistani? You should be ashamed only if you yourself commit a shameful act.
I do not carry the responsibility for another Pakistani’s ‘shameful’ behavior or mistake. Thats a sad way of putting it, really.

Andhra.
I dont watch Indian movies, and dont care about those who do watch them. But do you realize who is the real loser in this game? Do you realize how many genuinely bought copies of indian movies make it in to Pakistan? A big fat 1!. And then, thousands of copies are made out of that 1 master copy, and are rented/sold across the country.
Dont you wish india could have gotten those hundreds of thousands of rupees and fed some of its hungry and housed its homeless instead?

First of all, as a Pakistani I would like to clarify a misconception that India has. Not all Pakistanis watch Indian movies. You would be surprised how many dont watch em. I am sure most Pakistanis abroad do watch em, but there is a large anti-Indian movies campaign going on in Pakistan, which you people are not aware of.

As for Pakistani movies, they suck big time... The reason why they are not improving in because of the grand audience that watches them. The targeted audience consists of people, even they would stop going to the theaters if any efforts are made to improve them.

Its no use! Andhra has started THIS SAME TOPIC several times. I have no idea what he is trying to prove by this!

So lets just ignore this topic!

Salam All.
Indian movies,eh?
I dont watch them, never have and never will. I dont understand why people watch them. They're all the same and no good.
The money spent on them should be used to improve the life-quality of the poor people in India. But no, that wouldn't be fun now, would it?!?
As for pakistani movies, a load of the same crap. Imagine, some people actually get paid for that kind of acting.
I just dont get it...
Do you?!?

Alibeta, You can ignore the topic but cant Ignore the Indian movies

Spock, I know you dont pay to watch Indian movies, You buy a ticket to see a Pakistani movie (I would like to know where they show that in USA ?) and then during the Interval hop into another theater to Watch Indian movie.

Akif, why limit it to only Movies, Dont use anything which has got Indian TAG on it. If you need a list, Please let me know. I will provide you and then I will see, how far you are willing to go.

99% People in Pakistan listen to Indian music, watch Indian movies. It’s pakistan governments hipocrisy that they have banned Indian movies (No I am not rooting for a release of ban), on the oher hand they continue to export their music and artists. Ban everything from Zee to MTV, let the people suffer by watching those Lollywood movies

AK

Well if Pakistani people watch indian movies...Indian people listen to Paki music and watch our dramaz. Cuz our music and our dramaz r the best. Indian music suck and thats why they steal our music or have our singers sing for their movies.

Bongay, I dont live in the US… hehehe

You guys have this stupid misconception that everyone in Pakistan just loves Indian movies… Thats totally untrue asif khan. Besides, you guys think we are extremists, and being extremists, we consider these films to be unislamic. aint that right? hehe

Im glad the **** from bollywood is banned. All it was doing was promoting vulgarity. You can cry all you want asif, but this ban is here to stay. We have newer and better channels like ARY Digital, IM, Indus Vision, UNI to fill the space, and compared to **** like b4u, doordashan, sony, they are so good.

Good riddance to bad trash. When it comes to Pakistan, Bollywood can just S*CK it!!

HAHA, WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE STATISTICS? Tommorow you’l be saying that 80% of Pakistanis support the pathetic Indian cricket team
