It’s not a right, its a privileged. Given to men by Allah (SWT) with some very strict conditions. If a man decides to exercise this privilege than he is accountable for:

• Being fair between all his wifes. Giving them equal love, equal money, equal status and condition of life
• Spending time with all them equally

And remember we humans are worst in being fair to others. So it is a hefty agreement between the man and Allah if man chooses to exercise this.

And also remember that no the very next page in the Qua’ran it says that “men cannot treat their wives equally”… therefore polygamy is an ideal, only to be applied in extreme circumstances, for instance, when the population has been decimated by war and many women are in need (aka. there is a disproportionate number of women to men and many women with families to care for).

I do not think Allah would design humans to have monogamous instincts and tell us to disregard them without some great upheaval. :-p
