One of the biggest problems facing India, Pakistan and Bangladesh is over-population. Many Non-Muslims from Pakistan (Hindus, Parsis, Christians, Ahmadis) would like to leave Pakistan and settle in India. There would many Sunni Muslims in India who would prefer to be in Pakistan than India. Why dont India and Pakistan work together so that non-Muslims who would prefer to be India be relocated and Sunni Muslims who want to be in Pakistan be taken in Pakistan.
Re: Why dont India, Pakistan and Bangladesh work together?
Bad idea IMO. We can't afford mass migrations now.
Other than this, its not easy to leave your homeland, whatever, may be the conditions.
Re: Why dont India, Pakistan and Bangladesh work together?
What about the disputed lands? Pundit won't leave right to kashmir and muslims won't budge away from right to plebscite
Re: Why dont India, Pakistan and Bangladesh work together?
But what about those who really wanna leave ? Should there be a system in place where an exchange of population is possible on a case-by-case basis?
Re: Why dont India, Pakistan and Bangladesh work together?
In case by case method, many of them would be spy agents:), How many muslims are likely to levae against how many hindus are likely to leave wii be skewed and may cause unrest:)

many unresolved issues (like the kaur mentioned in her post) won't allow implementation of such system.
Re: Why dont India, Pakistan and Bangladesh work together?
Imagine 10 muslims out of 200 want to leave india for pakistan, there would be immidiate riot by the rightwinger and vice versa in Pakistan to evict all, the love that we have for law and order is evident from our daily experience with the law enforcing agencies and general public that we meet daily:)
Re: Why dont India, Pakistan and Bangladesh work together?
Yeah Kashmir issue is disputed but I was talking about the rest of the subcontinent say muslims in UP and Bihar do not want to live in a secular country and they have various issues that they consider as grievances like discrimination perceived or real, ban on cow slaughter etc and hindus in sindh want to leave because of harassment by the majority like for example they claim their daughters were kidnapped and forcibly converted. So should there not be a system in place to ensure they can migrate if they want to after scrutinizing their claims and background etc ? Is it right to force them to stay in a country they are disenchanted in just because their forefathers chose to do so?

I think few incidents don't represent overall society.
Hindus of Sindh love their homeland as much Muslims and enjoy good social and financially secured life. Its not that they are being targeted for conversion and neither they wish to leave their homeland. Many Muslims families also face similar issues like kidnapping, etc in some parts that also proves that there is no need to migrate on the basis of religion again.
Re: Why dont India, Pakistan and Bangladesh work together?
understand what you r saying ^^ . Just discussing if there should be something in place for those minorities who want out, not all of them. Is it better to go some place where u feel that you may be happy instead of being bitter and miserable about the current circumstances that politicians or the majority doesn't want changed? The well educated can try and migrate to say the western countries in search of "better quality of life". Why can't this be something a little similar to that. As for not migrating on the basis of religion alone, the current countries came into being on the basis of religion, so why put a stop there? Why should peaceful migration still not be allowed if that is what some people still want?

I think there should be some mechanism for free movement once both the countries are in peaceful terms. under current circumstances, where both countries don't trust each other, it may not be practically possible.

Free movement is good in terms of trade, but emigrating is a whole different ball game. We can still have free movement of people for tourism or trade when both countries are peaceful. But the option of giving up your current nationality and getting another is different. That was the basis for TNT wasn't it ?Pakistanis don't want to admit TNT failed and Indians don't want to admit that secularism in its current avatar as is practiced today is hypocritical and since the country was divided on the basis of religion, it makes sense to have a system in place that caters to the original reason of partition. Ofcourse people should not be forced or otherwise "encouraged" to migrate. It should be a personal choice and may lead to less rioting and harassment of minorities in the respective countries.
Re: Why dont India, Pakistan and Bangladesh work together?
LOL what an "innocent" question.
anyway good day in india - one of the several harmful communalists is gonna get put away in jail for a good while for murder. one down, a few hundred more to go. :\ lets work with the cards we have, instead of suggesting reshuffling every 20-30 years.
Re: Why dont India, Pakistan and Bangladesh work together?
How do U work with what cards u have if majority of the people and politicians are not willing ? There is nothing innocent about the question or wrong in analyzing other routes and options that can be made available to people if most are willing. Of course like I already said, people should not be forced to move, the decision must be upto the individuals and not due to societal pressures. I know many Indians who have settled in US for good because they did not want to move back because of the corruption and negative political attitudes that have infiltrated diff strata of the society. Is it wrong to think of their future from their perspective? How is that any different? Legal emigration is a better option instead of forcing pseudo-secular rules or religious rules in the name of law and nationality on unwilling people.
The Gujarat rioters got what was coming to them. The national monument desecrators and rioters have also been nabbed and hopefully will get what was due for them too .
Re: Why dont India, Pakistan and Bangladesh work together?
and the people and politicians who are unwilling to work with the current set of cards will accept new cards? would you be ok with bangladeshis who want to be indians coming in droves and living in your mohalla? let me answer this one - a big fat NO from every single politician in india.
Re: Why dont India, Pakistan and Bangladesh work together?
^ Exactly. Instead of redrawing borders, we should strive to reach a point where we no longer consider each other enemies. Of course this is difficult without nationalistic, and religious morons on both sides. Most of the time, just to keep things fun, both qualities are present on the same person. Love it.

Do monkeys not migrate?
Re: Why dont India, Pakistan and Bangladesh work together?
Gosh! I am not advocating mass migrations or even redrawing borders. I am just suggesting that the option to emigrate must be present to facilitate those who want to move to the other country after proper scrutiny on a case-by-case basis.
