Why doesn't Pakistan have any billionaires?

India has the most billionaires in Asia but why doesn’t Pakistan not even have 1 Billionaire?

Explain

Re: Why doesn't Pakistan have any billionaires?

How would we even know if there are some? Probably hide it to avoid getting taxed, scrutinized.

Also, comparison with India is pointless. To do that we will have to look at the attitude towards investing in the country and security regarding those investments.

Maybe it's time we stop comparing ourselves to India. Maybe a comparison to Bangladesh, Sri Lanka or Mozambique would be more appropriate. We just might come out ahead!

Re: Why doesn't Pakistan have any billionaires?

Because Pakistan is a poor country.

Re: Why doesn't Pakistan have any billionaires?

Capitalism and globalism? (Lack of it in Pakistan's case?)

An average Indian is economically less prosperous than an average Pakistani, but Indian state is definitely richer than Pakistani state.

Re: Why doesn't Pakistan have any billionaires?

Btw, I think Pakistani economy has traditionally been essentially more capitalistic, and has more investor-friendly regime these days. But India is a much larger market, has a better image, and many multinational or India based companies have struck gold in an emerging Indian or global market.

Do you consider NRI billionaires also Indian billionaires? Isn't there a single non-resident Pakistani billionaire?

Re: Why doesn’t Pakistan have any billionaires?

i think there are a lot of Pakistani billionaires… im sure the hashwani guy is one and so are aqil daddi and mian mansha and so many more. They just don’t announce that they are. :chai:

Re: Why doesn't Pakistan have any billionaires?

India has much greater economic activity, to much more chances of becoming a billionaire.

We should draw comparisons with nations of similar size of pop. to us, that is Bangladesh, Brasil, Indonesia, Nigeria, Japan, Mexico, Russia-those states in the 100-200 million people population.

Obviously we cannot expect comparable wealth data with a nation 8 times our population.

Re: Why doesn't Pakistan have any billionaires?

Pakistan is the largest country and economy which does not have a billionaire

If you look at economies which are similar to Pakistan, they all have billionaires except Pakistan

Re: Why doesn't Pakistan have any billionaires?

That says 2 things:

  1. Wealth distribution in Pak may be more even?

  2. Opportunities for wealth creation are lacking.

Shame on Pak.

Re: Why doesn't Pakistan have any billionaires?

I think point 2 makes sense

Pakistan does not have any innovative industry

India has many high-tech billionaires

Our industry is still rural based instead of urban based

Re: Why doesn't Pakistan have any billionaires?

Long story short...we suck.

We should rejoin India. :D :p

Re: Why doesn't Pakistan have any billionaires?

pakistan is a country that came to being just 60 yrs ago... i wish people would stop comparing the two. india has deep rooted history and its people have a clear sense of identity due to that. pakistan has faced instable conditions and crappy leadership. maybe we need a revolutionary like khomeni or gandhi to steer the country towards a firm identity. but at the moment its unfair to compare india with pakistan.

india also has a much larger pool of poor people as compared to pakistan. but again thats because its such a big country. so its unfair to compare them.

anyways is the number of billionaires in a country a measure of its progress? i would think its how equally the wealth is distributed among all ciitzens?

Re: Why doesn't Pakistan have any billionaires?

There are billionaires - people who can buy 25 million GBP palaces in UK & do own millions of dollars hotels around the world. But they are not counted in as, they dont want to be counted in, why? If they are, they have to justify the source of their income. Can they justify it?

Re: Why doesn't Pakistan have any billionaires?

There are Pakistani billionaires, but Pakistan has no billionaires. If you know what I mean. The money exists, it's just not kept in Pakistan.

Our millionaires have no reason to live in Pakistan, there is no incentive whatsoever for anyone wealthy or highly educated to stay within pakistan. It's a problem that does not exist in India. Indian billionaires stay in India. Pakistani billionaires run away.

As another thread mentioned, we might have bright students, but there is no incentive for them to stay within Pakistan for their higher studies. The number of people that leave in Pakistan vs India is mind boggling. The problem is Pakistan.

Re: Why doesn't Pakistan have any billionaires?

No opportunities?

Re: Why doesn't Pakistan have any billionaires?

Much of what has been said here, is based on peoples speculation, without any concrete facts or figures, can anyone even name one Pak billionaire, I won't be dissapointed if there are none, because if a countries wealth is spread out, rather then having a handful of billionaires, this would be something to be more proud of, then to be able to boast ''well we have billionaires, in our country.''

Re: Why doesn't Pakistan have any billionaires?

Anwar Perez(UK). Do you want me to go on? Pakistani Billionaires exist. Unlike their Indian counterparts, they run away from Pakistan the moment opportunity comes calling. It's a sad state of affairs when your brightest minds are better received abroad.

Give these billionares, millionaires, phds, masters, A-level wiz kids, O-level wiz kids a REASON to stay in Pakistan. We'll deal with poverty later.

Re: Why doesn't Pakistan have any billionaires?

Actually its pretty sad that Pakistan has no billionaire

Just because we don't have one doesn't mean the wealth is evenly spread out

The lack of billionaires shows that Pakistan has no innovative industry which can propel people to the stratosphere

Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Venezuela all have economies which are smaller than Pakistan but have billionaires

Re: Why doesn't Pakistan have any billionaires?

One day....progress can be slow.
