All three western religions have God the father, Allah(swt), Yahweh telling humans to pray. Muslims are instructed to pray 3 or 5 times or something (MiniMe screwed this up for me). On the same token we learn from the holy books that God created us, and that angels are constantly worshipping him, my question is why does God who is so powerful and creater of everything wants humans to pray?
Re: Why does God need humans to pray?
Your title should read "Why does God wants humans to pray?". God does not "need" humans to pray. You are correct in that God knows our minds and wishes.
Humans on the other hand need to communicate to God what they feel and desire. As parents know about their childrens needs, desires and love for their parents, they still require them to express it to them in conversation. The process of communicating to God is called "praying".
Re: Why does God need humans to pray?
lol....u wanna know why God want humans to pray Him.....becuz hes the greatest he can do anything.....if u were an Angel instead of human then ur question wud be " why God wants angels to pray him"
Re: Why does God need humans to pray?
Pray for your own self:
Pray for the fear of the day of judgement.
Pray to show that you love Allah.
Pray to keep yourself away from sins.
Pray to make your heart pure.
Pray because Quran tells you to pray on almost every single page and in every surah.
Re: Why does God need humans to pray?
Dear Verizon, keep in mind that whoever talks on behalf of God, gives instructions on behalf of God or makes promises on behalf of God is a fraud.
Re: Why does God need humans to pray?
God doesnt need us....we need him!
Re: Why does God need humans to pray?
If we need him then why is he telling us to pray?
Re: Why does God need humans to pray?
for our own good…
i am not very good at remembering the exact references, but I have definitely read in Quran where Allah has said something like, whatever you do good is for yourself and whatever evil you do is also for yourself since Allah is what we call, bay-nayaz
Re: Why does God need humans to pray?
^^ bay-nayaz in arabic is "samad" which has multiple meanings (if my memory serves me correctly). One means careless the other means rock and the third means bay-nayaz. My question is a pretty simple one. But People are having difficulty responding. So here it once agian.
Why does God (the most powerful, creator or all) needs humans to pray? Try this go to a online quran and open the third or 4th chapter , then search for the word pray. You will be surprised.
Re: Why does God need humans to pray?
God is a petulant little child rolled up in an omni potent spirit. He needs constant molly coddling many times a day. He is jealous and envious of any other inpretation that doesn't involve subjugation. Yes....very human characterististics for a very supposedly un humanly being. :)
Re: Why does God need humans to pray?
waisai i wonder if "GOd is within you" then why is it wrong to suppose "very human characterististics for a very supposedly un humanly being" about him....when do loose ends not add up......they call it rote-learning.
Re: Why does God need humans to pray?
because god is also around you, in the murti, in the torah, in the sky. All is god. Why would there be only one interpretation of something ephemeral...a human characterization if we ever saw one.
Re: Why does God need humans to pray?
to not give him a human interpretation is just as human as giving him one....the point remains that you just dont know His godly qualities....if you did, then you could say for sure they are not human-like etc........why should there be an either/or situation.......apart from the faltoo arguments, I basically think that if there is a quest for God and He expects us to understand Him then there has to be something human-like about the concept of Him. why restrict him outside the radius, even if it includes inifinity
Re: Why does God need humans to pray?
^ you are absolutely correct. I was wrong in my phrasing. To pray five times a day or 3 times a day or once in 5 years or facing the east or bowing in front of a murti of Vishnu or reading the torah while bobbing up and down are all human ways of inventing closeness to god. Otherwise he seems like a petulant child, as per my initial post.
Re: Why does God need humans to pray?
Back to my question WHy does God wants humans to worship and why is it repeated so many times in the holy books. WHY?
Re: Why does God need humans to pray?
Verizon bro...what is your expectation here...Are you asking just for the sake of discussion or you are asking becuase you need some logic "to pray more" or a logic "not to pray at all"...what is it that you think would really satisfy your quest?
As for me, I think whenever I am stuck to comprehended some commandment in Quran I resort to "samaena wa atana" rule. And with the passage of time, you do get to know the logic behind it. Since, as mentioned at the very begining of Quran this book is for those who actually believe in "unseen" (gha'ib). It works! try yourself too...
Re: Why does God need humans to pray?
Version - Any answer may not seem logical to you, but anyway...
Humans have some flaws, by default
He forget his weakness and shortcoming very easily and very fast.
To overcome these Allah orders to pray
To flourish humbleness and to control overflowing ego.
To remind him that he is just a mere mortal. Nothing in his control beyond a certain limit and to get that.... he needs The divine intervention.
Re: Why does God need humans to pray?
You should be more tacful with your words matsui. Not everyone is willing to accept such words from you when it comes to a discussion about God.
Verizon— Because you cant just to do what you want and then expect a grand entry into Jannah. And because the only way to get close to Allah is through prayer. You have something else in mind?
Re: Why does God need humans to pray?
People People. I am asking a simple question why does God want humans to pray for him? Why is it that "pray to me" is repeated over and over again in the holy books?
Muslim_Q Save me the lecture on Jannat.
Re: Why does God need humans to pray?
What reason would be good for you verizon?
Physical reasons, spiritual reasons, mental reasons.. all those justifications thought up by our scholars to give answers to those who dont ask questions for answers.. all of those answers will mean nothing to you. Because you dont seek those answers, you dont seek any answers.
Even if we can provide a specific answer that THIS is the reason why Allah asks us to pray when that SPECIFIC answer is not given in the Quran, it would be a conjecture. Prayer could be for our sake, it could be for His. You can probably find references for both in the Quran.
As far as Im concerned, knowing that Allah is worthy of worship would be good enough.
