haha, come outta your illusion that you're gonna save humanity by becoming a doctor. If you want a to be a humanitarian there are other options for you.
Have ypu ever stepped in a hospital? You need to familiarize yourself with how medicine is practiced today. You don't sit with each patient and sort out their problems or read books to them. You apply the science you were taught within the limitations the laws put on you. It's impersonal and stressful. Oh healthcare is also sort of a business, soooo ;)
Again do whatever you want I don't care, some people do enjoy the career as it is and they excel, the others get married off in their last year, loool. Taking the resources someone else could've put to use.
hmmm you really don't like me much do you. tisk tisk.
not in illusion, already am working in hospital...and have worked before in a nursing home. Inner city vs suburbs....been there..done that....I know how medicine is practiced & the ****ty insurance laws.... and i'm not just planning on staying in the US when i'm done...I got lots of plans for my life.
If you feel medicine is impersonal & stressful, and that we read books to the patients..... then clearly you are not in this field. Your ideas on what doctors do or feel is totally flawed and I can tell you are not one. Only those of us who are active in it will understand how much of yourself goes into this profession for the sake of others. So what if we have laws, every profession has laws... what is your point?
I'm not trying to sound like Mother Theresa with the humanitarian issue, the world is a fcked up place and no one can ever change everything.... but people can do their part if they want. I always wanted to be a doc since I was little and I'm quite happy that I am achieving my goals. Even if this field is not just gold & silver....this is what I WANT TO DO and I will continue to do it until I am at the retiring age. (If the world should last that long). How dare you accuse me for doing it for the wrong reasons and put a label on those who are studying their butts off so one day we can save people like you when you are, God forbid, are hurt or dying.
Quit with your contempt for girls who are in medicine and stop assuming that ALL of them are in it for the wrong reasons. I didn't take anybody's resources except my own so quit getting on my case. Jesssuuus
Some of you people are amazing. You seem to know what goes on in the heads of people you have never seen or met. Maybe it's just me but I see alot of contempt for pakistani girls studying medicine. Becoming a doctor is being portrayed to be as easy as learing how to drive. Maybe there is a tiny minority that does it for rishtas but I just find it hard to believe that most people would put themselves through medical school just for that. Whatever someone might say it is not a cakewalk.
As for those worried about precious resources being spent on girls who are only after rishtas, what do you think of those who study and then marry or just move overseas? Presumably, the only money being spent is on those in government colleges which are very competitive and you wouldn't just get in for rishta purposes. Even those critical of rishta hunting girls agree that these colleges are proper medical schools.
The biggest hit is on medicine side and its specialties. Hospitals still making lots of money and their reimbursement is going upward.
The trend is that hospitals now employing physicians and buying their practices.
This is worrisome. The independence of physicians are slowly being taken away.
The quality of patient care will definitely be down.
Physicians in private practice have lot of personal attachment with patients but as employees, that may not be there and patients will be seen as just another number. Incentives are there but not enough to make physicians work hard. Since the reimbursement by hospitals will flatten out at some point.
It is like nationalizing the healthcare. Big hospital chains monopolize the care of the patients and patients also get less choices to seek medical care of their liking.
^ true..... and let's not even get into the Universal health care debate.....
at the end of the day it is all about balances.... we gotta help others, but also need to make money in order for us to pay our own bills...so where do we draw the line.
Hun, whatever u just posted I didn't even read beyond the first sentence. Stop making this personal. What does it hv to do with you, I don't even know you. Uff.
Doctors do NOT want other doctors. Who tells you people these things? Docs end up with docs, if at all, because they have no life outside their work, and the only people they hang out with are fellow docs. Nurses join in too, so you'll see docs ending up with nurses. It's not that there is a preference...I just dont think people from different professions mingle easily in the US at least. Unless you have childhood friends or acquaintances of acquaintances, etc.
Well, my husband is a doctor and I am not. So yeah they don't ALWAYS want doctors. There is a good number of doctor that do want just doctor spouse because its umm status issue for them. Honestly. But there is also doctors who really don't want to do anything with medicine when they come home. My husband just doesn't want to talk about work at all when he is home. He wants to spend time with us without all the worries... away, far away from work and the stress.
And its really umm weird (stupid) to say that you went into medicine because you want to help people and just that.. There is also social workers ... volunteers.. You may like/love your profession but you are in it to make money..
