Well someone had to put it out there, you were condescending yourself saying all girls are pre-med and implying that is all we want or what our families want. I don't know what the reasons are for other girls...but for me personally, I have humanitarian intentions.

  1. medicine comes into the field of science and I am quite aware of all the fields which consist of the overall area of "Science" .... kudos to all who pursue it....to better themselves & humanity
  2. alternate can be anything, but your attitude was condescending regarding that all girls are pre-med. Home ec is just what I hear ALL the time...so sorry if my choice of word bothered you
  3. I never said being a doc is just for rishta or prestige. I just gave an anthropological view on why women would make good doctors/health care workers....and there are numerous studies on my statement in the 2nd paragraph. Plz ck them out if you don't agree.

Being a doctor was a considered to be a NOBEL profession, and sadly it is losing that value in this society...but for me it will never be mediocre or a field where it is just for rishta/prestige.

ufff yaar...nothing is wrong. to each their own.... my mistake for opening my mouth. Home Ec is diff from Arts, it's an old label.

I just meant that females now are trying to study something different which used to be considered to be a male profession in history.

if a doctor guy marries a girl who is a doctor too & girl wants to practice( obviously she will as she studied alot to become a doctor & bla bla) then who will look after home as both of them are busy playing doctor doctor :hehe: …

basically...and while back...way back...most girls were just pushed into this, with their family saying it would be better for their married life. It's what my grandma told me anyways....

^apparantly after reading this thread, she probably didnt have much troubles becoming a doctor as its commonly used to catch the big fish (rishtas) so I guess she doesnt mind not doing the work either

We're not talking about the highly competitive gov. colleges. There are lots of small private medical colleges where it's just about the monies.

you can do both…if you have time to eat and shower, then you have time to wash dishes and the tub. goes for both of em :slight_smile: They can play house-house after they are done playing doctor-doctor lolz

And which private colleges would that be? All I hear is how difficult and how much work you gotta put into getting in medschool so I'm having quite some troubles understanding this as the people complaining are loaded with monies. The docs from these private colleges arent real docs?! Is that the prob?

i think it's the other way around...[unless they fall in love during med school years]...i've seen most doctors have non-doc spouses.

I don't know what your problem is. Okay, I get it, you're a med student, my husband is a doctor qualified from Pakistan too. But that doesn't mean things you don't like, don't happen.

The fact remains that in Pakistan, there are a plethora of private medical schools. My BIL's wife's sister didn't get the marks to get into any of the gov medical colleges as they are highly competitive so her parents are paying for her to go to the fairly new private medical school (she needed okay grades to get in but nothing like the gov. college's) - it's not on the WHO list of approved schools yet so her degree wouldn't mean anything in US/UK for example.

I don't have a problem with this, if someone really wants to become a doctor, good for them. My problem is the lengths people go to, to get the rishta and then don't work for even a day afterwards if they get married by then.

Ok an off topic question but why do the doctor couples use such medical terms with their very young children like I know this couple who will say ''beta go empty your bladder'' or ''go pass the urine'' (exactly their words) lol
Why cant they keep it simple like ''beta its pee time or something'' lol
(just an observation btw)

its like ALLAH has assigned us with different duties & responsibilites.......... which both of them should understand...... man goes out & earns ........... women do household chores & she takes care of her husbands & kids needs.......this is the natural beautiful balance which should not be disturbed ........ well thats what i think......
