tough question. hmmm idk to be loaded??? most docs in my community are married to docs as well...and needless to say their houses are mansions. I have also observed that some girls (those without higher education themselves) when looking for rishtas prefer Docs so they can be excellent gold diggers. or maybe its b/c what many of you said already....family pressure/rishta...values....etc
I'm becoming a doctor but hubby is another field. I didn't want to marry a doctor esp after seeing how guys were in my medical school. They don't often make the best husbands. Some of my friends didn't go to med school, but married docs instead... but now they hardly see their husbands.
It is working out so far for me & hubby although it is very hard to balance working long hours & dealing with the responsibility of not killing your patients while still trying to be a good bahu/wife. But it can be done as long as you value your spouse and not end up making your career your whole life.

Well if you heavent realized there's some sort of a doctor epidemic going on amongst desi women. Mothers and girls, some fathers and sons too. very hard to escape it, I suggest you not think about such mediocrity
All I know is every single (pun not intended) girl I know is pre-med, whatever the hell that is.

Just curious.....Is is that easy to become a doctor in Pakistan? I only ask because a lot of people here are talking about girls becoming a doctor only to beef up their rishta cv (esp in Pakistan). From what I know it takes a whole lot of work and then some. Do these girls just go through medical school and not residency?

It's not easy to become a doctor in Pakistan, those who claim this are probably never even been to Pak. And not to forget, some of the very good doctors are usually from South Asian countries.

hey at least we are aiming for more than just studying "home economics" I hope more girls go into the health field....most make better docs since they are more empathetic and don't let their ego get in the way of treating their patients. I SAID MOST and no offence to those who studied home ec..so don't ya'll jump down my throat.
It is helpful to have more female docs/health care workers since many women worldwide don't like to see docs who are men (don't feel comfortable) so if they find a better connection with female docs, then they are more likely to seek better health care for themselves & family.

lol, studying sciences is different from medicine. Please don't reduce science to just medicine. I know most desi girls are conditioned to think that way
And just because one isn't a doctor doesn't mean the alternate is home economics. Wth is that. If you mean arts, then what's with the condescending attitude?
Your second paragraph..I'm not even gonna bother. People should do what makes them feel successful and happy not things for rishtas or just prestige.

Doctors marrying doctors is a great thing, they can understand the complexities of medical career, better support each other, both have financial security (other person is not marrying due to the money factor). I have come across plenty of happy doc-doc couples. With their schedules and commitments, together they are doing a wonderful job raising a family.
