I don’t see how the original topic has anything to do with backbiting. She’s not criticizing anyone in particular but just mentions a trend observed among Muslims.
I don’t see why any of this should be taken (this) badly. There are a lot of other things you’ll see being “shoved down the throats” of others among Muslims themselves and even non-Muslims.

How much education one should have.
How one should dress (though it’s no more anybody’s business, see how people who choose to wear jubba, niqab or even hijab are criticized)
