I was chatting with another Pakistani at my job. Nice guy, married, came to the Statesa few years ago. So anyways, few weeks back, he was telling me his weekend plans, that included a "maasi/maid" coming to his place on Saturday to do cleaning etc. I knew that his wife was a "house-wife", so I had to ask why do you need a maid for cleanup when his wife is already at home doing almost nothing apart from some cooking. His response was that he had no choice since his wife couldnt manage all of housework and needed help. I basically told him he was an idiot, since he doesnt get any "help" at his work. Poor guy has to work some long hours.
Doesnt that make sense? If the woman is at home being a "house-wife", shouldnt she be doing all of the work? Why do you need a maid? The poor man has to go to work all week without any help, so why shouldnt the woman.
It,s none of your biz to give advice without knowing a particular situation..so i would say..leave it to people whose problem it is..hmmm..and not waste time here by opening threads.
you should be ashmed of yourself ashtray. Is that what you call help? Help would be if once in a while you picked the dishes instead of her or you got her stuff from the kitchen or you cleaned up instead. But no! Some men just need a slave so they can feel all manly about themselves, a boost to their egos
oh and before you come back with some sort of defense…
Once you get used to maid, its so difficult without them. I had become used to not doing anything to help my wife coz there was maid, now that she has gone, its getting difficult esp for me.
Having a maid there isn't normally so easy and relaxing. Last time I went, I saw my aunts sooooo stressed out cuz the maasi was late or didn't show up and how nothing got done without them. People there become so dependent on their maasis that nothing gets done. And it's not like the maasis ask for prior leave or time off, they just don't show up if they don't feel like it. And they don't even have cell phones so you can't even track them if they are late. And not just maasis, same is with drivers and gardeners. Oh and even after the maids clean, I still heard one person or the other say, oh she didn't clean it well or this is left dirty, blah blah. Not to mention you have to hire someone very trust worthy or you have to watch them do every single thing cuz some people think their maids/servants are responsible once something goes missing. So basically, I saw one family member or the other watching the servants do everything. If they couldn't then they had their kids stand and watch, it was so ridiculous.
Too much hassle if you ask me man. It's better in this part of the world to whip out a few bucks and pay the cleaning lady to come and do your work once a week or so (if it's easy for you to afford). Other than that, it's not so much work to clean like you have to in Pakistan.
^^ today's maasis are so advanced that if they dont show up , one can call them on their cell phones and they'll give their reasons for not showin up on cellular phone
I wanted to get a maid, actually i thought we can get an au pair from costa rica or belize. I dont know why begum did not want a nanny/aupair all of a sudden.
Let me clarify my first post. The couple has no kids and AFAIK there are no health issues with the wife either.
Sahar02: I see what you're saying, but then in the same vein, instead of spending money on the maid, shouldnt the man maybe work less to spend more time with his family? I cant see the point in the double standard of the man working long hours and the woman spending time sitting on the couch while the maasi does most of the work.
Mamof3: Being a housewife is a 24 hour job? seriously? maybe they need to drink some redbull
shay9164: I dont have any problems with women, I love em! But I am just bringing forward an issue where I see a double standard.
X2: I agree. Well said.
For the folks telling me to mind my own business: Hey, what are the friends for? I was just giving advise to a fellow brother.
Q. Why do women have shorter feet?
A. Makes doing dishes easier when they can stand closer to the sink.
I thought it was because it'll be easier for them to perform fella... Oh never mind.
Who said he should work long hours? I don't think there is a direct correlation.
I meant that the guy probably works long hours so that he can afford a maid among other things.
JRG, when you have 3 little ones it surely IS a 24 hour job! Not so much before kiddies but still the thing is - hubby gets to leave his job and come home. A housewife is ALWAYS at her place of "work", know what I mean? Most places of employment give 2 weeks vacation, so shouldnt a housewife - even without kiddies - have a little break once in a while?
