I was chatting with another Pakistani at my job. Nice guy, married, came to the Statesa few years ago. So anyways, few weeks back, he was telling me his weekend plans, that included a “maasi/maid” coming to his place on Saturday to do cleaning etc. I knew that his wife was a “house-wife”, so I had to ask why do you need a maid for cleanup when his wife is already at home doing almost nothing apart from some cooking. His response was that he had no choice since his wife couldnt manage all of housework and needed help. I basically told him he was an idiot, since he doesnt get any “help” at his work. Poor guy has to work some long hours.
Doesnt that make sense? If the woman is at home being a “house-wife”, shouldnt she be doing all of the work? Why do you need a maid? The poor man has to go to work all week without any help, so why shouldnt the woman.
Wife is a wife; not maasi/maid. Just like Sehar02 said to you in your previous thread, not mix two becuz they are different. If she is doing household good enough but if she need help either from husband or maid there is nothing wrong with it. Rather husband shud be the first one to help.
Plus there will be times when a maid/massi should be doing everything for example during early or late pregnancy.
If your friend is getting maasi for his wife he is not stupid, he is just a nice husband.
The way I see it these days, my time is worth more than my money. Life is precious and it is short, and if hiring a maid allows me to avoid wasting time on scrubbing bathroom floors, and instead allows me to spend time with family and friends and achieving something more important to me, then why not do it?
That being said, I am not a housewife at the moment. But I imagine that taking care of children is a full time job. The bathroom floors are rarely a priority.
JRG, unless the husband own and runs his own business by himself, he does get help at work in the form of colleagues. He can also have a long day at work but come home and and leave work behind till tomorrow.
Being a housewife is a 24 hour job, no days off! Thats not a complaint but rather the reality of it lol. If we could afford to hire someone to help with housework, I surely would love that and my house would be sparkly instead of passably clean.
Think about it, the wife has to tasks of marketing for household goods and food. Washing and ironing. Dusting, vacuuming, mopping. Possibly yardwork. Planning menus and cooking meals. Its a never ending cycle and it really is alot of work. Do-able surely. But also lovely to have a bit of extra help if it can be afforded.
As a gift last year, my parents sent me a gift cert. for a housecleaning from a maid service and it was SO nice to have that extra break and to have my house all sparkled up!
I am starting to think that you have some major and I mean MAJOR issues with women. It's quite clear from all your threads so far that wives are merely just servants/maasis/objact of no worth to you.. all I wonder about now is how many more ignorant topics like these are we gonna read in the near future? It would be nice of you to give us a headsup so we can start ignoring insulting threads like these that demean women so much.

In general my view is that if he puts in an honest 8-10 hours of effort at work, she needs to do the same at home.
and when he is back from work if there are other things that need to be done then those things need to be divided equally. if the husband is helping his wife with some chores then I dont see a reason that would necessitate a maid.
That beiong said, you dont know about her health or other commitments, is she expecting, is she ill, do they have a few small kids that keep her busy.
there simply is not enough information in this case to make a call. All we know is that the people in question feel a need, have the funds and are getting the help that they need.

I would like to kno which part of the planet he grew up in..
If he has a job to do outside of the home then a wife's job...(a wife that stays at home, is healthy and doesnt have kids) job should be to tend to the home without needing a maid. If she has kids then I can see how it can be difficult ...but that too depends on the size of the home.
With that said....if her husband is generous enough to provide a maid for her then that is their business and not yours.

Also I want to add.....if she is accustomed to that lifestyle (ie having cleaning ladies, nanny etc) before marriage.....then Islamically (sorry to bring up the Islamic perspective for those of you who dont care) the husband has to provide her with the same IF she so desires it....even if she is a "housewife".

there is nothing wrong in having maid in pakistan. You should treat them well.
Buy treat for her kids if they come along with you kids.
In a way you are providing some one a job. BUT TREAT THEM WELL.
I help my wife a lot around the house, like after dinner i push my plates towards her so that she doesnt have to come around to my side of the table to collect them. I save her trips to the kitchen by telling her what I need when she goes there to get something for herself. I do not leave things here and there but instead call her over and hand it to her so that she can put it in the right spot. Sometimes I love myself so much for being such a helpful husband ke I wish I was a woman and married myself.
