Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

i don't understand why chivalry has to be only something the man does.

if a guy opens a car door for me out of mutual respect and caring and just decency, giving up your seat on the bus so a a tired lady can sit down

then it would be the same thing as me going and organizing his drawer so he can be more organized or calling up and asking how he's doing

it's these little sweet things in life that i think the younger generation has forgotten to do.

politeness should be something our parents taught us or hopefully taught us

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

Exactly, couldn't have said it any better.

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

Because women find chivalrous men very attractive. I'm married so I don't want other men to be chivalrous.

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

rude, abusive, impolite, total jerk are qualities that you would never find in a gal's list of things she would love to have in her future hubs

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

haha....you don't know some women.

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

It’s what teachers do. :sahar02:

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

:D..i remember the saying..

Those who can do something, they do it..
Those who can't they become teachers,
those who can't become teachers...they teach teachers...:D

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

I think its just shows character - men are generally the stronger of the sexes. And most men are like MACHO MACHO MAAAAN. For a man to give up his seat, open a door or just generally be polite - shows good manners, good upbringing, a caring nature. And for a society that puts men at the forefront of everything.

AKA - me man - me good at everything, natural born leader, earn more than you. Bring food home, while you look after kids. (Thats my cave man talk LOL)

It just shows that hes not just a one sided macho guy he has a softer caring side. That women can relate to. Its politeness. When I see a pregnant lady on a train I give up my seat, the same goes for an elderly person. If I see someone who is blind etc lost on the trains I help them out. Its not going to cost me anything to be nice. The same goes for a man.

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

Chivalry is taken as flirting by most women in Pakistan, so it is very risky being chivalrous in Pakistan. A simple act of kindness can land you into trouble. Some men can dare to be chivalrous but only if they are sure she is unaccompanied.

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

yeah it will land you into trouble only if you confuse chivalry with hitting on.

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

thats for a woman to confuse..which they DO...

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

women can easily see the difference between the two so don't worry if you have the right intentions of being nice to them.

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

it's like in that movie Titanic

at the end when Rose and Jack dawson were on the boat, he wanted to keep her warm and out of the freezing cold water so he let her stay on the boat, if i was rose i would've said that we should take turns being on the boat/raft/whatever just so neither of us freezes to death but being the selfish little princess that she was she didn't do the chivalrous thing and hence mr. hero froze to death.

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

… he treated her like a princess like all of you wish to be treated..and gave his life..>>

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

i don’t hate titanic, i just think it was b/c of a stupid, selfish reason that he gave up his life. See she could’ve saved him but she was all into “how to save Rose” and it was all “is Rose alright”.i wouldn’t even call it a love story, if I have to call it something it would be a 'one-sided love" story.

you obviously don’t understand my thoughts about chivalry, go back and read all my comments again regarding this topic…go lil bacha :@:

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

we like the attention

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

Valid points, except the most obvious reason is that James Cameron knew what he was doing and wanted to make all the women cry. The movie had a much bigger impact because women get emotionally attached to fake characters (cough Twilight) and Cameron took advantage of that. It's the same reason Transformers can have a relatively crap story and guys will still watch it.

Yeah but women can ask for guys to be chivalrous but if you ask some women to make you a sandwich, they go ape-**** on you, calling you sexist and stuff. I agree with you, it's just doing nice things for each and and I would prefer to do things like that for my wife or girlfriend, and I would appreciate her doing the same. But that would be my wife or girlfriend.

IMO, manners and chivalry are not the same. Manners go both ways. Chivalry is mens' actions towards women, which as you may have noticed, is one sided. And if women want equal rights, then they are going to get all that goes with it, including the responsibility and the discourtesy a lot of guys have for each other.

This is kind of off topic, but it reminds of the a psych article about harassment in the work place. Women complain that men treat them differently and the work place is hostile but the reality is, the fact that men were harassing the women is them treating women equally. Women are fake nice to each other and rarely openly criticize each other. Men on the other hand, ridicule each other, often mercilessly, and any guy who's familiar with locker room talk knows this. It's how guys try to one up each other. So men treat women equally, and women complain.

Now, you can say that men shouldn't be doing that in the first place but that's not how guys are built. We compete for women, for status, and for dominance and women expecting us to raise our standards is like when women expect men to be as clean as them, probably not going to happen.

And that ladies and gentlemen, concludes my rant.

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

Lol that's fair. At least it's an honest answer without false justification

Re: Why do women want men to be Chivalrous?

Lets not abuse the English language shall we? Common manners are not the same as chivalry. If I open the door for a guy its common manners. If i open it for a woman it is common manners. If I walk a girl to her car at midnight so that she is okay - that is Chivalry. Chivalry by its definition is gender specific and affects gender relations. A man can not be chivalrous to another man. It does not happen and nor does one use the phrase in such a manner. Neither can a woman be chivalrous to another woman. Never gonna happen.

It is specifically the act where man allocates respect to a woman based on her gender and nothing else. When you give up your seat for a woman on the bus you do it because of her gender. Not because you know her or you consider her more trustworthy or a better human being.

Now if its merely for the attention is it reflective or your collective issues of self-esteem or what requires you to define your views of chivalry as necessary so that you feel more respected or better?
