Why do we need a madhab?

Sorry I was still in the process of brining your complete post from other thread especially the quotes since by hitting quote button it did not include mujaddid part and Abdal Hakim parts from your post and corrected spelling mistakes later after writing the answer.

I used flawed word about comparing science and religion. Something I have said in other threads before.

Re: Why do we need a madhab?

Mr Diwana following a madab is another thing and following a firqa is totaly total another thing we have to differeniate between it The four Madabs basically deal in Shariaw in majority issues they have a common ground but on some issues they have different opnions but firqas are different in a firqa people get biased and mostly declare each other kafir and many times there are differences between one madhab to but the Imams of the fiqh didnt have that issue for example Imam Malik and Imam Abu Hanifa were very good friends and Imam Shafi was the student of Imam Hanbal but they both have different Fiqhs

:k:

I think you mean Imam ibn Hanbal was the student of Imam Shafi’ who was the student of Imam Malik who spent some time under Imam Abu Hanifa.
Allah knows best.

What is madhab and what is firqa?

First define them. I mean what do you understand of a firqa and madhab.

If you think madhab people do not get biased, think again........ :)

I also have problem your time line of imams, now will need to check however.

Please read my posts and see what i mean however, it is not just that people get biased, it is other issues which makes following just one madhab strictly, not a good way to practice religion.

Being open to other ideas, searching on your own the sources and acting on it are better ways to live life and following a religion.

Peace diwana

Essentially a firqa is a major difference in belief and a madhab is set of differences in practice.

For example although Salafis are unlike Sunnis in practice they are far closer than Ahmadis to Sunnis in belief. On the other hand Ahmadis may even follow the madhab of Imam Abu Hanifah, but because their beliefs differ they are hence called a firqa.

It is important that farq should be assessed by what people say about themselves not about what others say about them.

Re: Why do we need a madhab?

There is no single quranic verse or a hadith that people should follow just one of any imam or madhab or even a single sect and be divided.

Mere pridiction by the prophet SAW that the ummah will be divided in to 73 sects does not mean he agreed with it or condoned it.

Surely people have taken the ideas of one imam or the other too much in to their lives
WITHOUT thinking and searching their own.

It is like : you have been given two functional feet to walk but you choose to be lying on the ground and wait for someone to carry you step by step anywhere that person want!
You may get there you may not, you do not care, and keep your eyes closed along the way!

Let's face it, Majority of muslims are muslims because they were born in muslim family and same is true for other people of religion.

Majority of muslims are shia, sunni ismaili or whatever because they were born and were taught one school of thinking than other.\

Even majority of sunni based madhab people are adamant about following one madhab because of this is what they were told and to follow...without questiong or they just chose to follow that particular madhab and argue with others that they are correct others are not.

In essence: A lot of people act like sheep and have 'herd' mentality, looking for someone to tell them what to do in their personal daily lives!

How to pray, how to hold hands in prayer, how to call or address Allah or his prophet SAW, how perform hajj, or when to start or break fast........ Who to respect among sahaba, who to curse and **argue, and more importantly pull each other legs over the issues which happened over 1400 years ago........

**OK I got the response from Psyah Bro in the meantime.......

And the major or minor differences are based on?

I mean who made the differences be minor or major based on what?

What may be major for one might be minor to other....right?

WE made the differences based on what our made up leaders or imams AFTER the prophet SAW came and then made firqah, madhab and groups.

OK, if one is still adamant on making these differentiations, let them be..

But the problem comes when one is adamant about following one imam or school of thought and closes her or his mind to ANY other idea and not be proactive to search if something else is there that might be true or better.

Hence, I still submit with being humble, that ANYONE should be open to other person's idea and not be so egocentric to just stick to one when it comes to beliefs or religion!

Obviously very core of religion is not what I am tsalking about..the one which are laid down by quran or repeatedly and consistently reported hadiths which do not contradict either to each other or to the Quran.
