So, we have fought four wars with our neighbors (including Kargil); we lost East Pakistan because of them; we can’t retain our riteful land in Kashmir; we don’t agree with their religous belifs. Yet, we continue to admire their celebrities, we invite them to our land and promote their movies, we say we’re just like them when we’re NOT.
So I ask, WHY? Why do the many people here on GS don’t want to admit our dislike for them?
Mods: Please don’t shut this thread down; Im trying to get some honest answers here. I promise there won’t be any hateful remarks from my end.
We are a confused nation who have forgotten their purpose. When Quran becomes your shelf ornament, gets read in Ramadan for "ek Quran khatam kar liya", "2 khatam" etc. but barely knew anything read in Quran.... the difference with followers of other religion diminishes then the next natural thing is to compare "cultures" which ought to be similar because we lived together for so many centuries, then we start questioning ourselves "why did need a separate land" etc.
Rorr I don’t agree with you when you say we (Pakistanis) are not like them because baring religion 90% of Pakistanis (Punjabis, Sindhis, Urdus) are just like Indians, all of them are like Indians in terms of culture and in race only about 1-2% of them would be of partial foreign Muslim descent with a few more who claim fake foreign Muslim descent (but race is irrelevant because all Desi ethnic groups are already racially hybrid to a certain extent), Pakis from eastern Pakistan are exactly like people from North Western India (Punjab, Rajasthan and Hindi/Urdu Belt) but also share in the broader Desi/Indic culture with the rest of North India.
These are facts my brother, language is the main hallmark of a culture, minus a few artificial differences in unspoken forms of both languages the two languages are identical, language is the key to a culture and Pakistan’s national language Urdu is the same language as India’s main national language and constitutional language Hindi, the only notable difference in colloquial dialects of both languages is the script, that’s why amongst the South Asian Diaspora anywhere in the world there is a sense of a Desi identity and it’s the reason nobody in Pakistan watches Iranian movies but Bollywood, Star Plus dramas and Indian pop is so popular in Pakistan and Pakistani rock/classical music and Paki drama/comedy serials are so common in India.
Pakistani Pashtuns and Balochis are different, our people, language and traditions resemble more those of neighbouring Central Asia but we only make up about 10% of Pakistan’s population and I honestly think we will eventually get assimilated into Pakistan’s national culture which is basically Indic (Punjabi culture, Hindustani language) with few negligible Central and West Asian influences.
Religion/faith/belief/ideology and culture are two different things, culturewise Pakistan is like the rest of the Subcontinent and you can’t change that, yes due to our religion/ideology we should have political solidarity with the rest of the Muslim world and feel closer to them due to religion alone but culturally Pakistanis are very much South Asian.

I have to disagree. Just because we MAY look similar (although there is an argument there too) does not mean we're the same as them. The citizans of the Scandinavian contries (i.e. Finland, Sweden, and Denmark) look similar too but that doesn't mean they are the same. They have theier own culture, own traditions and values. Same thing can be said about Canada and the US.
Further, us Pakistani's are different because we follow Islam. This is the MAIN distinguishing point.
I don't like to divide Pakistanis into different categories (i.e. Punjabi, Pashtuni, Sindhi, etc). To me, a person from Hunza is as much Pakistani as someone from Karachi.
we can't retain our riteful land in Kashmir;
cos its not rightful !
we don't agree with their religous belifs.
thats your problem.
Yet, we continue to admire their celebrities,
what else you can do with a cerebrity!
we invite them to our land and promote their movies,
this is just to help stop piracy and govt to get some revenue. movies are there anyway.
we say we're just like them when we're NOT.
indeed you are just like us. see your first name. if my brother converts to some other belief, he doestnt change biologically. he just changes the name & faith.
So I ask, WHY? Why do the many people here on GS don't want to admit our dislike for them?
Thats what I call, 'truth prevails !'

Lets have a solid discussion here folks.
This concludes all the discussion.
thaught provoking :D but it's difficult to avoid them. The only problem is here Pakistan does not have the same quality or not even close to it. Indian movies and songs still hold strong with good quality Urdu which is what most people want to hear. Sadly, Pakistanis programs don't have that . Just yesterday my parents were telling me that there is no such thing as RADIO PAKISTAN anymore. There was a time and glore that radio Pakitan was listened day and night by Pakistanis. It was the best thing happened to Pakistan due to very hard working producers and directors. But now it has completely lost its credibility. They told me they have such wahayaat talks on it...hosts are extremely confused...they talk half in English and half Punjabi half urdu. Well people would rather listen to Indian stations then where there are still some standards left. Sorry that is the true reality of this issue.
But obviously I dislike the other unislamic stuff which is potrayed in the movies and dramas. It is good to be tolerable but not when it starts to go into your blood stream...all budh mata and pooja stuff. Thats is why I have cut down 98% of watching that already :D
Speaking strictly entertainment wise, I do think Pakistan has better music videos and songs than India.. Their videos are just alot more creative, and the songs r nicer to listen to.. then again if all u wanna c r hoes dancing/shaking, Indian/rap all the way :k:
Majority of Kashmiries practice Islam and want to be part of Pakistan.
Your religon is a joke throughout the world, so lets not go there.
TRUST ME, we're nothing like you. We follow the teachings of the Quran unlike your kaum that believes in idolatry.
what do u have to show for the win of the two wars my dear.
There are lot more people in India practicing Islam than the Kashmiris. So do they want to be part of pakistan.
" Your religion is a joke throughout the world, so lets not go there."
This comment was uncalled for. Did we discuss religion here. A person of one religion will find the other religion as loads of bs, anyway. I could comment like that for ur religion too my dear friend.:) .
You seem like a nice guy so whatever I say here is with all due respect:
The only negative impression that the world has for islam is that it breeds terrorists; this cannot be further from the truth, Islam teaches peace and unity. Infact, it is the fastest spreading religon in the WORLD. This fact by itself gives the true picture of islam. As far as Hinduism is concerened, lets face facts: it promotes and gives God like attributes to animals and inanimate objects, this is shirk and people who indulge in shirk are called kafirs. Further, the idea of worshipping monkeys and elephants (again, I do not mean disrespect here) is laughed at here in the west.
Secondly, many muslims in India have a soft spot for Pakistan. They know that they belong in an islamic state; however, there are other muslims that dislike Pakistan to fit in with their hindu companions. The avaam of kashmir want to be Pakistanis and it is our RIGHTFUL land, so my indian friend your government cannot call itself a democracy because the pleas of the citizans are falling on deaf ears.
^The majority of muslims in India seem very proud to be Indians. Plus have you ever spoken to an Indian muslim ever? I wouldn't make generalizations if I were you.
Quite a few people in the West have Indian art all over their house and they aren't Indians. I've seen a few homes with huge statues of Ganeesha and even Indian temple art hung in their houses. So no, the west does not make fun of Hinduism. Their might be a few misconceptions about the religion but that's about it.
^ Have talked to people in west about hinduism? Ask a white guy about worshipping cows; what do you think he'll say? Ask him about drinking cows urine; what do you think he'll say? Choro yar, you know as well as I what the GENERAL impression people have.
Secondly, I said indian muslims have a SOFT spot for Pakistan, I didn't say they were anti-Indian.
