Its okay to emulate the US or the West. But when you emulate Arabs its considered an inferiority complex.

If I lived in a middle eastern country I would automatically adapt to the ways of life there. So, I don't agree with above because we shouldn't be emulating anyone either way. Sounds contraindicating but adapting and emulating are different in my opinion.

Integrating I get. Adapting and assimilating I do not, nor do I agree with. Regardless I just find it great that nobody brought up these notable points when it came to bashing Arabs. Pretty damn racist.

Edit: Actually Pakistani. Ami and Abu can be best qualified as Mohajir. I come from no specific province since i was born abroad and BBQ speaking Punjabi is just hot. :D

Yes, Integrating is a better word that's what I meant too. I think the reason is because most of the people that replied to that thread and this are actually from USA so they don't see anything wrong integrating. Also, Arab isn't a country so adapting or emulating "arabism" is saying one forgets their own roots. My understanding may very well be wrong. I know I was peeved off too at that thread because when I think someone is saying Pakistani's want to Arab it makes me feel they are saying I am not a good enough Muslim as a Pakistani and I can only be true Muslim if I emulate the Arabs.

Edit: I also get peeved off when someone says I am emulating the goras because even that makes me feel like it means I am not proud of my roots and don't want to be associated with being Pakistani. Which is far from the truth.

From what I know about Arab immigration laws, you can never be an Arab citizen. They can kick you out whenever you want. You always know it's temporary. Whereas living in the US you CAN become a citizen and choose to live there for the rest of you life hence the need to assimilate.

I understand "assimilate" to mean "transition yourself to fit into your environment" which is what I feel my parents/did when they settled here in the early seventies. "Emulate" to me, falls into the "poser" category that this thread refers to, and is pathetic on all kinds of levels, be gora/kaala wannabes or "Arabism"

But I could be wrong....

The point I am trying to make is that when it comes to Arabs desis make all kinds of snide and sarcastic comments. But when it comes to gorays and their ways of life they all kiss ass regardless of them being integrated, assimilated or posing.

Case in point. For some reason its acceptable among our Western Pakistanis to be racists and crude about Arabs for no reason but defend the gorays like they had recolonized us.

I dunno CM - but I wouldn't do that and I don't know anyone else who would either. All my friends are Arab because I happen to live in an area with a lot of them around.
