I think most Paki men have a moustache because they want to show that they're "manly" without having to going through the suspicion of being a "mullah" when in N. America... or maybe it's just a cultural thing (most men in pinds have moochs, at least that's what they show on TV). For myself I would like to have a goatee without moustache (the kind of one Bam Margera has).

From what I understand, Muslims consider a sunnat to grow a beard because thats what Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) did. But he did not grow a mustache and kept his beard trimmed.
Now why are Pakistanis and other Desis doing the opposite?

That is right, to the best of my knowledge about sunnat.
...but for some reason, where I come from in Pak, a mustache is considered a sign of Manhood, and even Badmaashi. and some people even make fun of men with beards, ie a few times I've heard men with a beard called a 'Bakra'.

Ewww no, men with moustaches make me cringe. Nobody looks good with moustaches.
Moustaches look backward, outdated, rural, dirty, fugly...
Even goatee/frenchee looks ugly, best way is to be clean shaved or the Islamic beard which looks lustrous, handsome, dignified and serene (I know in FOB culture it's considered backward but over here they have been quite in amongst the younger generation and look good when they're soft/wispy first times beards instead of ones that have been so shaven each hair is 3 inch diameter).

Becuz chai peethe howe, mustaches act like a channinni, so saves them time and energy, not to mention keeps them slim(as it takes the milai out)...:D:D:D
