This is a common trait among Arab women to this day that they beat their cheeks and chest on hearing very unpleasant and unbearable news.

This is very instantaneous and natural human reaction.

The important point is this, that this action or reaction was for that very occasion and was never repeated again in ritual ceremony.

Shias cry and show their sorrow to remind people like shardmanny of what happened. Truth hurts.
