People notice opposites because they stand out. People can have differing opinions or dislikes with respect to certain things, but overall, marriages are most successful when the couple is similar. I had a teacher in high school say that men tend to be attracted to women who are similar in nature to their mothers (how’s that for MIL drama? 
), and women tend to be attracted to men who are similar to their fathers. Hence, the notion of women with daddy issues.
