I have a presentation on this topic for my class… and I’ve been researching it… most of the reasons are the same… poverty, easy money, lack of an education, drug dependency and so they prostitute to support their habit, and then there are others who really just enjoy it. On the other hand, there are some who got caught up with the wrong people very young in life and basically got forced into it by pimps or controlling boyfriends who manipulated them.

^ well I'm not saying it's a good example - but many govt institutions have tried to "eradicate" it through legislation but their attempts have invariably failed.
^ sort of like smuggling. my personal take is that the attempts are almost never sincere and rarely consistently pursued. more of philosophical question i guess.
A couple of yrs back a v.famous Playboy Playmate of the Year (married) was exposed as an escort, she was apparently charging 100k a week! She was stunning looking when she was younger but looks a total mess now, am surprised any man would actually pay that much for her..
Escorting is a lot more common than people think, on the London party scene every other 'glamour model' is doing it, even some of the bigger names, it's big money for girls who only make a couple of hundred pounds a shoot and crave a designer lifestyle. Pretty sad the lengths some girls will go to for a Dior handbag (one of my male friends jokes u can always tell who's an escort on a night out by their pink Dior handbags!) or some new Jimmy Choos.
I do have sympathy for those on the streets tho who genuinely have no other option, one of my desi friends was telling me there are lots of Asian girls working as prostitutes in Slough nowadays and they've often come down from places like Birmingham or Leicester, having been kicked out by their parents and everyone has just turned their backs on them, one girl in particular was thrown out for having a white boyfriend (funny the parents didn't have a problem with her brother 'putting it about' tho) and now has no-one to look out for her. Desi girls tend to be brought up in a way that they're much more dependent on family (compared to white girls) so when they are thrown out/rejected they have a much harder time dealing with it and are more likely to go off the rails, end up hooked on drugs etc. Totally heartbreaking..
See I have sympathy for those in the latter case..the ones thrown out in to the streets, or kidnapped…they’re not doing the right thing either but they had limited options..and they need help.
but the seemingly “normal” girls, who just want xtra few $$ for designer goods…they’re the worst. i remember reading some articles a fwe years back on high school/college girls in affluent suburbs having sex for money/designer stuff.. and htey actually had the nerve to call it “designer sex.” why not call it what it really is, being a whore? or is that totally un-PC? or since they’re rich/white, it makes it less wrong for them to do that?

however, my opinion on prostitution is simply gross - like a million times gross. How can a person lower themselves so much.
I am sure the girls are in tough position and maybe doing it for money... BUT what I find gross about it is the MEN.
How can a man fall so LOW. I mean the girl - understood it's her majburi. But what ? Guys have to be so desperate that they would consider using a prostitute - who has been - only god knows where and with how many before him!

There is a reason this is the oldest profession in the world. Its a simple case of demand & supply. As long as there is demand, there will be supply
Many governments in the world have understood this phenomenon and have even legalized prostitution.
As far as reasons people get into this profession, I agree with the OP - there is one group which is stuck in this due to factors beyond their control eg. poverty, criminal gangs, kidnapped & sold etc.
There is another group which is purely in it due to the easy money and ofcourse the pleasure. They are in it by choice.
Prostitution is a business. If you look at numerous documentaries the women /girls deliberatly choose this profession because there are not any other ways for them to make that type of money.
Some times women are born into it. A documentary showed a grandmother, mother and daughter all in the same business.
It's sad but you really can't judge others unless you have walked in their shoes.
Why do some men work as garbage pickers, do autopsies, clean toilets, become buthcers...........many people would consider them disgusting jobs but people do it for a living.
Same with prostitution, women make a living out of it. Some are forced and some do it happily.
Personally I see nothing wrong with two Adults agreeing to do something together behind closed doors that does not affect society in any way. (except when a person is married but that is their personal marital problem).
Well I dont see any reason why we still should have prostitution specially in these western countries. I mean what are the reasons? its the same that you just mentioned, money, money and more money. But c'mon these days there are shelters for women in every city and there are other support groups. They will give money to them to help them out, there is welfare there are tons of options, they will even send them to college for free but only if they try. The thing is they take the easy way out. Sure some people do it for pleasure but trust me their percentage is very low ... mostly its for convenience of money and they dont really enjoy the 'sex' part. So yah there are definetely options available but they just wanna close their eyes to those options and go blindly in to these prostitutions which ofcourse bring tons of other problems like drug problem, rape, std and whole bunch of other things ... anyways
