If calling someone Paki is okay, then I guess calling Japanese "Japs" is perfectly okay, right?

Just because it is shortened, doesn't always mean it's okay.

^ Apparently you don't understand what we're saying. Japs was a term almost uniformly used as derogatory. As was the "N" word. Paki was not. So you'll have to excuse those of us who didn't grow up around bigoted Brits because we've grown up using it as a shortened form of Pakistani - sort of like desi.

As for why the term "Paki" was picked in England rather than like "Indi," I do think the harsh sounds in "Paki" make it a more pleasing choice for someone who wants to turn it into an offensive comment.

If "Paki" was meant to be a racial slur, the Brits did a really bad job of finding a name that sounds SO deragotory.

The mirpuri / punjabi gangster community didn’t help matters for themselves. Other communities have came and progressed in britain even the uneducated indians. The main argument i hear is that all indians were doctors and engineers unlike the jahil factory worker mirpuris etc so it is kind of the fault of the british? :mudhosh: It still doesn’t give excuse to the mirpuri punjabis that are born in britain to clean their act..

Yes.....the N word and the word paki can not be compared...one is derogatory and the other is just an abbreviation of the word pakistani. I dont know what context the term Paki is used in other parts of the world...but here in the US people dont get offended by it because it is not used in a derogatory way.

Very well said bro, racist bigots have a bad opnion of every ethnic minority but even the educated middle/upper class white people have a bad opnion about Pakis because of these “I’m well 'ard innit cuz” gangster types.

Indians had an adavantage that even their immigrant generation was largely educated, Pakis mostly came from rural areas so they weren’t. The Pakis from educated areas such as Lahore and Karachi are very well integrated into the wider Brit community whereas the rural Pakis (even the generations born here) act as though they are completely different species, they seem to have problems interacting/communicating with the wider Brit community.

Our Mirpuri bro’s are not entirely to blame though, it’s understandable that they turned to gang-culture largely for self-defense in the face of violence from BNP gangs but it’s a shame they ruined their own future and the future of our community, Sikhs also faced racism and fought but they also excelled academically and imprtoved themselves and strenthened their communties, now people respect them because they give something positive back to the British community, Paki youngsters on the other hand have only sticked to violence and trying to get rich of drugs.. We’ve made the least progress in this country, Indians have improved much more, even the Bengalis have done a lot better than us. To top it all of these disillusioned, simple, lost Paki youngsters were easy prey for pseudo-Islamic terror cults (Zadie Smith in White Teeth hits the nail on the head when she described how and why Brit Asians turn to these groups).

Something needs to be done, we need to bring our younger generation of the streets and provide decent activities for them in Paki/Islamic community centers (pool, sports, comp/board games), the whole community needs to chip in to hire tutors for them to help them with their HW, bilingual tutors who will keep the parents updated on their progress because a lot of these parents don’t understand what the teachers say in their reports because they don’t speak English… This needs to be done from a young age (nursery/kindergarten) because if they’re left till their teens they’re messed up beyond repair.

Paki parents need to stop being so indifferent and a little less trusting of their little angels..

We need Imams who are better equipped at guiding our communties, not imported FOBs and not brainless robots educated in single-faith Dar ul-Ulooms that have no contact with the outside world, we live in a multi-cultural society and we need Imams who have also studied in gov public schools so that they know how to relate to the wider British community and don’t alienate us further.

It really scares me the way our Paki/Muslim community is becoming more and more marginalised… We’ll have to make our place in society by showing we’re worthy of living in this country and by giving something postive back to this country.

Pak or Paks is perfectly acceptable to everyone.
