This is something I've noticed as a kind of specifically desi complaint. Everyone, no matter what culture or background, chats during get-togethers. Or when talking to long-distance relatives. Whats the news? who is doing what? whats the news around town?
I dont consider this to be gossiping but most desis would.
Gossiping would be along the lines of "well did you SEE so-and-so, how she was dressed and how she was talking to that GUY???" or, "did you see the weight gain on so-an-so? I bet she's expecting again" Unfounded speculations, mean-spirited observations I consider to be gossip and fodder.
The rest? Its chat - its gupshup - its harmless and it keeps us all grounded and in tune with each other. So peace out people.

Where did i said .. guys never do? If you breakdown the time..
a guy would gossip for 2-3 minutes.. and he get headache, naturally..
a gal would gossip for 24 hours, .. and she get fresh, naturally...
see the difference ? ;)

sometimes they are not gossiping but telling the truth
sometimes they are gossiping cuz they like attention
sometimes they are gossiping cuz they like being dramatic
sometimes they are gossiping cuz they have low self esteem
sometimes they are gossiping cuz they have nothing better to do (some desi aunties)
