So I spoke to my English friend and he wanted to know why do Asian men (be it Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi) walk in front of their wives without even looking back to see if they are ok? I just said it was maybe a result of the woman not being able to keep up with the man and it doesnt denote inequality in a marriage. But I realised this was a pathetic answer so I do wonder…why do our men treat our women like this? Is it fair? does it cause problems in a marriage? does your husband do that? I know i would be pretty annoyed if my husband did
I then turned it around and asked him whats the thrill with holding your hands and groping each other in public like people in the west do? He went quiet and said “its an expression of showing love” but I hardly see how pinching or touching someone’s butt in public is a way of showing affection. If anything, it degrades the woman into an object of pleasure.
First: Your friend asked a stupid question. What does he do, sit all day long observing how asian men walk?? This is perhaps the most stupid generalisation somebody has ever made.
Second: Your answer was not pathetic. It does NOT denote equality/inequality in marriage! And “the walk” is not just limited to asian men, any man from any race has the ability to ignore his wife!
Message to your friend: You might “express your love” to your wife in public but goras can be really behaya when it comes to protecting their women. Tell him to go to Pakistan and see for himself how the (majority of) husbands are so protective (sometimes over-protective) of their wives. Try calling a woman “hot” infront of a desi husband
They might not hold hands n hug in public but they certainly are caring and protective of their wives. At least every man I know is.. my dad my uncles my brother-in-law my friends etc etc etc.

One American Journalist visited afghanistan before Talibaan and he noticed that men were always leading women when walking . So he asked what gives ?
He was told it is our tradition and culture , men is always in the lead.
After Talibaan rule was established the same journalist visited Afghanistan again , this time he saw women were leading while walking. So he asked again what gives ?
The guy said "Land mines in the ground". :D

I don't know why but here I have not seen this. Usually the couple like to walk together side by side. I have never seen Pakistani or Asian men walking ahead of their wives. Well never is a big exaggeration okay I might have but not a lot. Usually if its a newly wedded couple or just few years to the marriage the guys are all lovey dovey to the wife and walk side by side and if its like older couples they walk together but with a bit more respect and sharam.

it might not denote inequality in a marraige but it sure as hell is annoying and pathetic when dudes walk 6 feet ahead and dont look back to see where the wives are.
It certainly can be discussed within the couple thing and can be resolved but It should not be made a big issue.. think about it, your hubby starts walking with you but also starts caring less about you , which one you would be more worried, or I should say annoyed with? I think eastern husbands love and care the most about their wives (no exceptional cases plz) as compared to west where they can spend years with their wife and do whatever crap they want.
I think sentiments are far more important than these tiny things... just my observations.. :)

To me, thats one fo the signs of not being a caring person, acting as if they're embarrassed to be seen with their wives. that to me doesnt sound like being caring or loving at all.
Like everything there should be balance between groping ur significant other vs looking like ur embarrassed to be seen with them.

I think its all done unintentionally... when men walk ahead they may do that just becuz they are in rush, they walk at a good pace or wutever, but I think they dont even realize it.
If they do it purposely then I may agree with Sara.

yea, men do generally walk faster than women (it's true! no point arguing about it)..
but if they do it deliberately then that is really very sad.
But then kissing/groping in public is just gross. IMO the couple should just walk side by side, holding hands and smiling at each other. Don't need to go further than that :)
