Re: Why do Pakistani men walk in front of their wives? and why does the West hate us
Neither those desi men think or are concious of it nor desi women care about him walking together all the time.
I am sure these are ocassional times when they get separated, otherwise how is even possbile they never walk 'together'?
Never seen 6 feet far apart couples however. That's a real stretch.
Non-desi couples are extremely concious of these kind of issues. And then they start feeling suffocated with each other. Being couple does not mean you walk like you are marching together!
Re: Why do Pakistani men walk in front of their wives? and why does the West hate us
every desi men knows it is fatal for his wallet or credit card if he walk with his wife, so in reality he is trying to escape that fatal voice “jee zarra yeh zevar kee dukan per chalein”.
Re: Why do Pakistani men walk in front of their wives? and why does the West hate us
Tell your colleague that he has got it totally wrong. They don't walk 6 feet apart, it's actually 5 feet standard issue regulation distance between husband and wife. Any more or any less, a fatwa will be issued to hang them.
One American Journalist visited afghanistan before Talibaan and he noticed that men were always leading women when walking . So he asked what gives ?
He was told it is our tradition and culture , men is always in the lead.
After Talibaan rule was established the same journalist visited Afghanistan again , this time he saw women were leading while walking. So he asked again what gives ?
The guy said "Land mines in the ground". :D
This isnt funny as once I think Japanese use the same method to do it during world war.. Look on internet how the thought of WOMEN FIRST came into bring in western minds and book.
And regarding the question.. say to that gora its now these gora are talking much about women and their rights.. before a woman in their areas need a certificate from church to be called as HUMAN.. if it is not humiliating enough for their aspect of history and thoughts.

afghanistan didnt get mined during the talib era, it got mined during the russian era. and as everyone knows theres not much that can scare the afghans to change any culture of theirs
Re: Why do Pakistani men walk in front of their wives? and why does the West hate us
I dont think its about women walking slower but more to do with males leading. When I see it in Pakistan its a way of making sure people dont stare too. I have noticed that the Bangladeshi's do it a a lot more than Pakistanis.
Re: Why do Pakistani men walk in front of their wives? and why does the West hate us
^ yea I agree.
I’ve seen alot of Pakistani couples within Pakistan who hold hands khulaye aam so I don’t know what goras are talking about
I think how close a couple walk is denoted by the number of years they are married. Newly weds walk extremely close and elderly couples walk miles apart shouting and throwing jutas at each other
Re: Why do Pakistani men walk in front of their wives? and why does the West hate us
Arabs do it a lot as well, I read on an Islamic forum once some ppl trying to make out it meant the husband could see if there was any 'danger' ahead lol and look out for his wife (so what happens if someone comes from behind to try and mug her??)..
Re: Why do Pakistani men walk in front of their wives? and why does the West hate us
I think there is a lot more context to the walking thing though. I have seen many situations where the guy(s) know the directions to the restaurant, the man is a fast walker/women prefer to chillax on the way there or have heels on.
Note that all of these situations involves groups of guys and girls. If a husband is walking a few feet ahead of the wife and she is all alone - that's pretty disrespectful and doesn't really make sense? A proper gentleman offers a his arm and always walks on the street side with ladies present.

That makes no sense. If anything he should be walking her arm in arm. I think it's fair to say that many women would prefer the arm thing over being left to play catch up.
I actually saw this cute older Pakistani couple doing the arm in arm thing (aka my parents).

I didn't say it makes sense, I think it's totally illogical as well, just passing on what some others were saying on the Ummah forum once..
Re: Why do Pakistani men walk in front of their wives? and why does the West hate us
It has more to do with the protective nature of men. Their role is traditionally one of head of household so along with that comes a sense of leadership, responsibility, etc.
Being protective, leading, guiding their families is something that comes naturally to men just like nurturing and caring generally comes naturally to women.
Walking ahead of women is just symbolic of their role in life...
