Why do some Pakistani guys act all gangsta? I dont get it. I dont really see the girls behaving that way, but for some reason its a big draw for the guys. Do guys think girls will like it, is that why they do it? Is it to “fit in”? Are your parents that way and so you automatically pick it up from your parents? What is the reason? It just seems really odd. I have never understood this phenomenon. Call me naive or whatever, but I am just being honest. It just looks unnatural if you havent actually grown up in neighborhoods where thats the way everyone around you talks and behaves.
Munni, coz thats the only easy way they can mix up with the society. They think its cool as in hip to dress up like a gangsta even though if they look silly.
I think this happens in certain cities. In almost every American city I've been to, this is the case. In Toronto on the most part, this seems to be the case as well, or used to. In Montreal, there isn't one desi like that. In Edmonton, from what I remember from my visit, there were none or very few that I've seen who act in that manner. I belive it has to do with the environment they live in.
haha.. my encounter with these jokers would be at desi concerts around DC where they would show up and act black. but, somehow they would get into fights with each other....right around where gals would be standing. cant think of any other reason but a lame attempt to impress those gals i guess.
dont get me wrong we all do things to get gals but this is a little too much pappar bailing.
You should see the jokers in NJ. They probably use half a bottle worth of jel each time they do their hair and then dress up in stripped shirts, bronzed skin, and think they are gods gift to women.
It's mainly a high school/early college/uni thing. Most guys grow out of it though once they hit their 20s.
Girls definitely act all 'gangsta' too. It's annoying when people try and act like they are from the ghetto when everybody knows they just live up the street. They certainly don't pick it up from their parents ... more like their friends from school or influences from t.v.
bibi :halo: either u live in a box or ur world is in a box. u have not seen any gangsta girls? thats a joke really. where i work, we have 2 pakistani girls. 1 is 10 arms and legs ahead of gangsters. other is only 5ft above the ground but i have a feeling she is 20ft below aswell. anyways i’ve seen many many and many desi [mostly indian/sri lankan/bengali] gangster girls and quite a few pakistani aswell [most were with their black BFs].
Its so depressing to see these people with no sense of direction in life. I mean if they were ambitious and wanted to suceed in life then you'd spend time studying hard and not ruin it by acting like some Bloods gangster. No wonder so many of them end up doing low paid jobs. The environment you grow up in plays a major role here but so do parents, its down to them to inject the enthusiasm and desire to suceed.
I agree with Femme. It has to do with identitly crisis. They are so ashamed of their paki heritage that they act out like something they will never be. It is a shame. I am ashamed just by looking at them.
It is so fake and i wish someone would tell them how funny and fake they look. Instead of trying to look cool they are actually fooling themselves and look like nothing but trash. I am sorry to say but this is how i feel on the topic.
At every age, children try to be independent; it’s the basic instinct of survival.
So when the parents and other desi uncle aunties are praising this straight A student, who is soo good at the spelling bees, the teen that gets Bs or Cs and thinks spelling bees are stupid will obviously go the other way. To prove he is different and that he doesn’t care about As or how hippopotamus (sp?) is spelled, he will either wear baggy pants with a cap on backwards and chains or spike his hair and wear all black with a piercing. Such kids usually feed on the disapproval of their surroundings, when an uncle looks at ‘em with his desi mean eyes it only strengthens their urge to be different.
That’s why I usually don’t like when people start comparing their kids, especially in the presence of their children. I know its very hard not to. The worse for a parent to say is; look at so and so, he is so great. Children only hear ‘you are not so great’ in that conversation.
Then you have the kids who look different, and try to be different, with the baggy pant rap look, or the spiked hair and piercing, except they get straight A’s, and know where they’re heading.
