Re: Why do non-religious people think that religious people live in fool’s paradise?
this argument is actually another form of a popular argument “the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence”
You are taking this argument lightly while this is the argument that differentiates agnostics from atheists.*
Re: Why do non-religious people think that religious people live in fool’s paradise?
no one cares what you believe in, ajazali. that changes when you decide to preach it. if you want to preach something without proof, you get criticized. simple.
Re: Why do non-religious people think that religious people live in fool’s paradise?
Anyway, I reread my post 68. That post indeed was an appropriate response to post 67. Subsequent to that, when my bringing up of religious laws was challenged, my responses were also appropriate. While responding to a specific post, at times, one can forget which thread one is in. ESPECIALLY when threadsas you put it are mirror images of each other.
I respectfully stand by the points made in earlier posts.
Re: Why do non-religious people think that religious people live in fool’s paradise?
If a Muslim preaches to another Muslim or Christian fellow, this should not bother nonreligious people. what you say?
If a muslim preaches to an atheist even then criticism would not be the case. although preaching by muslim to atheists is unlikely as we are not spiritually trained enough.
Re: Why do non-religious people think that religious people live in fool’s paradise?
ajazali,
this thread isn’t about muslims preaching to atheists, the other thread was about religious people preaching to everyone - again no one mentioned muslims, you just decided to jump in and go all gung ho and defensive. I have encountered plenty of bible thumpers, hare krishnas, pentecostals, etc in my day to day life trying to preach to me even without knowing what i believe in. muslims no, and good for them for being that way.
Re: Why do non-religious people think that religious people live in fool’s paradise?
you said religious people get criticized because of preaching without proof. so i replied with an example of preaching muslim. there i said there is no reason for nonreligious people to criticize religious people on preaching.
Re: Why do non-religious people think that religious people live in fool’s paradise?
Are you trolling us, bud? Would it make sense to teach someone to use carpentry tools if they wanted to learn to use paint brushes? It is like saying “I know you want to paint but here, carpentry is so much better.” On top of that, you do not want to get criticized. Whether the criticism is right or wrong, it is justified because you should not be teaching a painting student how to use carpentry tools.
Re: Why do non-religious people think that religious people live in fool’s paradise?
Sorry folks, I totally forgot I’d made a post here that may require further clarification. I get confuse between both threads and decided not to keep a track of either. I find discussing religion a very boring subject.
Anyway, Southie got is absolutely right! I was very pleased to read his post, in fact it made me smile. According to Prof. Richard, people who burn books, cause trouble and disagreements, indulge in petty debates and talk about division and put people down in the name of religion are actually irreligious in his views. The genuinely religious people are too busy doing good things (i.e being charity, being kind, humble, just etc) to cause any discontent in this world and hurt the feelings of people around them.
Re: Why do non-religious people think that religious people live in fool’s paradise?
Let it go man. Just got confused between two threads that in Muqaweees own words were mirror images. Have a nice day.
Also, I will appreciate it if you would refrain from using “Janubi uncle” when addressing me. It may have been funny to you the first time. Also, as the post above suggests I am not the only one confused about the two related threads.
As for your advice about tangents and derailments, what exactly is your post about? Move along.
Re: Why do non-religious people think that religious people live in fool’s paradise?
@OP
There was no intent on my partcto derail the thread. It was an honest mix up between two threads that were mirror images of each other. I had acknowledged the same day I did get the threads mixed up
I had also offered that you can delete any post of mine you deem yo be tangential or not germane to the topic discussed. The offer remains.
The intent of this post is to emphasize I fully intend to follow forum rules. To the extent I may have inadvertantly and unintentionally violated the spirit of sticking to the topic at hand, allow me to express regret.
I believe we had it squared the other day. However, in light of the consternation expressed by a member about my attempted derailment (which was simply an honest mistake), I wanted to respectfully clarify my position.
Re: Why do non-religious people think that religious people live in fool’s paradise?
All right guys, let’s all keep things civil like. Religion is a subject which brings out a lot of passion so let us all respect everyone’s views and talk like so as well.
