Re: Why do my parents not understand? (marriage)
you must keep on telling your parents if your mother listens to uk side stories like people from uk don´t get along then she must listen to pakistan side stories that most of the students are always looking for some girls who could get them red passport and according to uk immigration news most of the students in uk are not students in fact rather work their to earn money.
so they must keep in mind both sides of the picture.
generalising much?

Re: Why do my parents not understand? (marriage)
I find it so funny that people are vilifying her for not wanting to marry from someone "back home".....I know many couples who can be happy, so I am not dismissing that, but I also think it's a perfectly valid concern/fear, coming from two very different backgrounds and not being able to get along with a potnetial spouse from back home.
Chochi--it doesn't look like your parents are being very smart or rational either, so it looks like you'll have to be the bigger person and keep your emotions in check. Several people here have given you great advice on how to deal with them. I would still advise that you should keep your mind open about marrying someone from back home, but if you don't want to, that's okay too--doesn't make you a bad daughter or a bad person.
