Most people - regardless of their background - have some trouble with their parents while growing up or even later. Its a part of life...people grow and relationships need to mature...what they call "growing pains".

How many Pakistanis, in general, are honest in front of their parents about what they do when their folks are not around? How many parents prefer to turn a blind eye than deal with the truth? How many children actually have that kind of relationship where they can sit and talk to their parents about life, personal issues, etc.?

Could be that most parents can not relate to or can not quite understand the issues their kids/teens face in the west. So in these cases not only there is a generational gap, but also cultural gap further exacerbating the relationship. Sometimes kids grow up to realize silliness of their angst, other times parents accept the inefficiency of their stubborness. I dunno.

My affinity for the amusement that GS’s badboy (even though I know there is a sensitive cuddly wuddly teddy bear under the gruff, pervy exterior), casts no shadow on my undying love for all things Sehrysh

I don't think I've met a single person without "mom/dad" issues. I think when we are close to people, conflicts develop. It is only natural, especially when the relationship is as layered and complex as the parent-child relationship. What differs from person to person is how those issues/tensions are addressed.
