I grew up and continue to grow up (in age) in Pakistan but I don’t have negative view of desis raised in the West. I don't think you people belong to a monolithic group who think and act alike. Even reading your posts one can see that you have different personalities, loyalties, likes and dislikes in spite of your similarities. But at the same time, in many ways, many of you don’t look very different from desis ‘back home’. (I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing.) Most desis I have met or interacted with were too busy trying to live or survive their own lives to form informed opinions about the desis abroad.

The desies in desh are not a big mouth yes but they do have complexes of their own. I am raising three kids . One is 15 year old boy, the second one a boy turning 13, my daughter is 7 years old .
Now being a fobby I should be complaining about how badtameez , ill mannered , culturally blind they are , maan baap say baat karnay key tameez nahi, baroon ka adub , adaab nahi , mazhab ka bhee kuch pata nahi etc etc . Right ?
But I will not .Why ?
Because they do not have any of those kind of behavioral problems. Neither do the friends of their age or their cousins who were born or raised in America. These kids are bi-cultural , they know how to behave with their parents and elders . The teachers of my kids, in parent teacher conference will always tell me that they have nothing to tell me , my kids are fun to have in class, and if I have any questions then I could ask. My kids are no exception, it is true for kids of other desies I know.
The desies in desh who have complaints against ABCD's they do not like the self confidence, independent decision making and openness of these kids. The desies in desh want their kids to be dependent on them , shy and closed minded.

Is it 2 so hard 2 understand dat ev 1 of us has diff perspective depending on our upbringing/experiences/culture/values/maturity level etc. etc. etc.
I know so many ppl back home who consider highly of ABCD’s n I hv met sum FOB/ABCD’s ( dat also include sum of the guppies :hehe: ) who think that the ppl back home have flushed their valuez in drains sumwhere

FOBs are more confident.(be cause they hv bn treated like first class citizens back nome)
FOBs are more rely able.

Can i add to this? we have different values…unfo some ppl think “different” is “bad”. like I can do one thing, thats totally normal here but over there it’d be like end of the world. if that makes any sense

from my own experiences, i feel that desis have an already made opinion on their western desis, based on what they see on the news or on tv or in films.

P.S BTW you need to stop watching pakistani dramas. id also suggest you walk out of that burqa and maybe live a little. its ok to talk to a guy. its not a sin. etc etc

Nobody mentioned the cultural opposition? Conservatives back home dislike the liberal society and lifestyle here. More so in Pakistan than India I guess.

I didnt grow up or was born in india or pakistan but i still have a very negative view of American desis or western raised desis.

thank you…i honestly feel this is how it is…i have been part of both as in spent my teens in canada n now in pakistan so i can figure out the mentality at both ends…but i wudnt say every1 out here or out there is like that but ya there exceptions.

the assumptions are not made by only one group... western desis have their own myths and stereotypes about those that either live in desiland or have moved to the west recently. I agree with a part of Conservative girl's post that western desis by and large tend to view freshies or those back home in a negative light. Of course that is not true for every western desi but so is the case when it comes to the views of those living in desiland.
