Is it really necessary for aunties who are housewives to have domestic servants?
All my aunties in Pakistan have domestic servants who work at their houses almost everyday. Almost all of middle class in Pakistan employs domestic servants to clean their houses and do other chores.
Personally, I would never have a maid or anyone doing my cleaning, I rather do it myself. I love cleaning.
Also, bless their hearts, but some those “kaam waliz” don’t do a very good job.
Re: Why do aunties in Pakistan need "kaam waliz"?
Personal preference, I guess. Some women don't like cleaning. And some kaam walis do a better job than others. And with kind of economy we have these days, those maids could use the money to help support their families....because they might lack the qualifications to find a more comfortable job.
Re: Why do aunties in Pakistan need "kaam waliz"?
I think it's easy and cheaper to get maids over there....supply and demand rule, so many poor people (supply) and so many rich folks who demand service.
Plus some of the aunties would starve if they didn't have maids and cooks cooking for them, and how would the kids and their husbands get ready for school and work without maids....rich brats .
Re: Why do aunties in Pakistan need "kaam waliz"?
Having a maid is a status symbol. This applies to almost all married women and a hot topic of discussion among ladies is how lazy/ill mannered/dishonest their maids are. They'll have maids do the cleaning, cooking and laundry and then go to a park for a 'walk' or gym for a work out to melt all the extra fat.
Re: Why do aunties in Pakistan need "kaam waliz"?
it has become a norm rather than a status co. almost every other house has atleast one kaam wali. n the other day i was looking at classified in a pak newspaper n i was amazed that normal rates for a full day live in housekeeper is 6000 rs. log mehangayee ka rona rotay hain but full time masis, cooks, drivers afford ker laitay hain.
Re: Why do aunties in Pakistan need “kaam waliz”?
My aunt has 4 kaam waalis: one for washing clothes, one for cooking, one for cleaning the dishes and one for home cleaning. They all come everyday. The cook and bartan waali are there 3 times a day.
My aunt gives her the menu.
Yet she is tired all day ![]()
Re: Why do aunties in Pakistan need "kaam waliz"?
I'm wondering if it's not just the diet that is contributing to the common problem of heart disease among desis. Mayhaps a sendentary lifestyle (courtesy of Kaam walis) is also contributing to the ailment. Hmm.
There is no harm in having servants working for you.
1-Money gets distributed.(richer ppl pay--kam wala/wali gets)
2-Kam walis support their families.
3-Kam walis are less likely to be abuse from their husbands, since their employer (women) would alway have sympathy with them(being a woman them self)
^ so true! I don’t know how they get tired when most of the more energy-consuming jobs are done by the maids… makes living in the US seem comparatively unglamorous
WOW. what does your auntie do all day?

My aunt was telling me that when her maasi was getting a proposal - the prospective husband's first question was how many homes did she clean. Once he knew how much she made/expected to make did he propose to her. In many families, the maasi/kaam wali was the sole source of income.
Re: Why do aunties in Pakistan need "kaam waliz"?
uhh hmm, the poor in pak literally go around begging for such jobs for themselves and their children so what's the problem?
while i don't like the concept as a whole, it's what keeps these people fed and clothed.
i just get annoyed with these aunties when they claim we have an easier life because of things like dishwashers and vacuum cleaners.

Re: Why do aunties in Pakistan need "kaam waliz"?
These kaam walis get paid very less compared to all the work they do...they should get a pay rise!
Re: Why do aunties in Pakistan need "kaam waliz"?
NO, i wil be agreed if you keep them for 24 hrs.. but if they come finish their work and get the same payment, then its enough i think..
Re: Why do aunties in Pakistan need "kaam waliz"?
Its called employment. Look it up in the dictionary.
employment? i thought those kaam waliz worked for free :aq:

especially the younger ones.
Re: Why do aunties in Pakistan need "kaam waliz"?
It is the NORM in Pakistan. And you don't have to be middle class or rich in Pak to have a kam wali, everyone there has them because the labour is dirt cheap.
And the kam wallis there are not as underpaid as you think. My mom was talking to some kam wali there that worked for one of our relatives and apparently she had saved up enough moolah to send her son to University in England.
Re: Why do aunties in Pakistan need "kaam waliz"?
Ive also seen it to be the norm in Pakistan for ages now. Its a way to earn a living...so why not?
They get paid, take home food almost everyday so they dont have to cook when they get home, receive brand new clothes on all special occasions from their employers among other perks...so why not?
