the fact is its not just in pak wherever labour is cheap for instance middle east ppl hire housekeepers n nannies. even in calgary well off ppl where both parents work hav full time maids. its just not affordable for everyone otherwise we all will hav atleast one kaam wali atleast i will :)
I'm not saying that it is a bad thing that it provides employment.
I'm just wondering what the auties are doing if almost all the work is done by kaam walis.

They watch T.V., they shop, complain, gossip....let's see what else, yeah that's pretty much it.
p.s. I only mean SOME aunties, now don't anyone dare to get all crazy here!

the social circles and families r much larger in Pak as compared to here. any relative, friends n neighbours can drop by without a phonecall or on short notice. Then its badtameezi if u don't serve ur guests meal so yes housekeepers come handy then. ur house is mostly clean, u can run them to market for stuff in case of emergency. they can wash all the dishes later on if u cooked for like 2 dozen ppl. etc
i think maids are horribly treated. most of these aunties will tell you how they are being ripped but they pay them pittance. i hope pakistanis develop soem sense of humanity towards their kaam walis.
I have heard absolutely horrific stories about my wealthy great aunt, who is no longer with us anymore, who used to chain kaam walis to her bed at night.
My other younger aunties aren't any better. I heard one of my aunties beat a poor little girl who worked for them for no reason at all. Damn, some aunties are so evil.
mostly ppl living in joint famliies in pak. when the eburden of ork in the house for so many peopleonly falls on one ow rtwowomen it si really hard. it is relaly hard to wash clothes..and jaroo and pocha the way the y have to squat down..and clean bathrooms daily..and cook.. and wash diesh. it relaly is..and it is not like they dont do anything. soemtimes poepl only get kaam walis to od one or two chores and they do the rest. it is needed. it si quite a burden. they dont have proper brooms and mops and washing machines like we do..
it is harder there..iv seen it ..especially when lotso of kids are in the house and htey have to be looked after..
personal preferences? hahahaha, what a joke! this is such a lazy country with such lazy people. My God. I wish I would have stayed there longer, but I guess I would have collapsed. I fyou want to bring back the plates, drink las or whatever, they ask you to leave. Why don't they feed me if I can'tbring away my dirt?
there's so much dust in pakistan that the whole house has to be cleaned everyday. as for in the west, most people can get away with cleaning the house on a weekly basis...

I don't know about Lahore or Islamabad, Karachi is a dusty place. Plus, us non big ballers did not run the AC all the time, so windows would be open.
