Discrimination laws only apply when different requirements are set for different people in the same environment. The gender issue is because there are most likely to be a set of rules for women and a set of rules for men in terms of dress code. They have to be different because women and men do not generally wear the same clothes. Places like retail and fast food however, you will find that dress codes are more closer between genders than in the offices

Chapal, sandles , open shoes to the office. Also what is wrong if men would wear shoes but no socks and go to work or to a party. Why is it considered a taboo ? I am sure if I do that , my boss will have a talk with me. Only exception is if you have some kind of injury on your foot.
Women are allowed to so. They wear sandles, chappals, open shoes that too without socks and nobody has issues with it.
Can I sue for discrimination if I get fired for doing so ?
my guess is people don't mind looking at women's skin.
