Re: why call everyone "DEAR"
I haven't heard of any Pakistani doing that, but I did used to call all my students dear, sweetheart, etc. Don't know why I did. It just happened!
Re: why call everyone "DEAR"
Yep lot of Pakistani do that , even their emails start with Dear Khalid Sheikh etc.
Re: why call everyone "DEAR"
my oldest SIL calls me Dear all the time....doesnt make a difference to me, but in the beginning I thought it was weird, but you get used to it.
Re: why call everyone "DEAR"
It's obviously a lot weirder when random people do it, like the Pathan guy who set up my satellite would call me that, or the butcher guy at the halal store or the waiter at this one desi restaurant. I never quite understand why they did it either but when I first heard it too I found it incredibly strange especially since it was all men using the word. But after I'd heard a few pakistanis saying it I figured they just didn't realize it was more a term of endearment then something you add in to be polite.
Re: why call everyone "DEAR"
i cant stand it and tell em straight away that i aint their dear mear.
Re: why call everyone "DEAR"

Re: why call everyone "DEAR"
because I cannot be bothered to remember names.
other pakistanis i think, use it as slang for friend, such as "dude" and "homie" are.

Yes, dear. ;)
Re: why call everyone "DEAR"
I think indians use it more often.. like a lot! Thats actually far more than us pakistanis.. Hena dear ;)
Re: why call everyone "DEAR"
Thankyou DEARSSSSSSSSS
I said once "I am not your DEAR so don't call me that" "do not DEARRRRRR me"
And this person got quite offended...so I just got used to it now!!! LOL
Re: why call everyone "DEAR"
How is "dear" offensive?
If you find that offensive, then definitely don't visit England's West Country, where they refer to everyone as their "lover"....:D
Re: why call everyone "DEAR"
^NO WAY, really?
Re: why call everyone “DEAR”
Hmmm.. now I have to go to England’s west ![]()
Re: why call everyone “DEAR”
Yep!! “hello my lover” is the phrase you’ll hear the most down there…![]()
Re: why call everyone “DEAR”
On the rare occasion, I’ll call people ‘lovely’ but that’s about it. Too much of the niceties gives leeway for a more comfortable talk, I like seeing people uncomfortable ![]()
Re: why call everyone “DEAR”
Now THAT would make me super uncomfortable.
Re: why call everyone "DEAR"
Is it just hello my lover or "helllloooooooooooo my loverrrr" ?!! ;)
