Well it was more of a client/server app, where both clients would connect to server and then play against each other. However, there was nothing graphical there.
Guess what,I hate MATLAB,it is not hard, it is just weird. I am totally surprised we can develop games in Matlab. All I knew,it is really good for image processing. I am good at 3D games since we worked in OpenGL to draw graphics objects. Working in Matlab with the use of Java Integration will be something new to me.
Yeah Mario bros
I remember MSN allowed users to play games online, both members could connect to the same server and then play against each other.
Most games you can play online would work like this. I remember back in the day I had played Need for Speed and Command and Conquer online. We would play with friends over the modem.
Interesting discussions going on here. I don’t really know anything about game development to its fascinating reading a little bit more about what experiences you all have!
Yea I’ve got Mah Jong, Tetris, and Solitaire on my phone. SO loads of pracitce!
Watch out! I don’t wana kick your booty and feel bad for laughing that you lost
So no human players? Did you try doing it with one human and one system?
haha I agree. MATLAB is very weird. It is awesime for image processing but integrations help a lot. OpenGL is really awesome. I remember constructing 3D house tours in OpenGL. My teacher thought I was a fail.
No, no human players, though it could have been done in theory. Since there was no graphic representation, it would have been very difficult for a human player to visualize the game state anyway.
Did you develop this game on your own or was it your assessed group project at uni?
We develop , you play!
We do need addicted end users for our product such as you.
Constructing a house was my very first lab with OpenGL and I was like WTH. I had even constructed that house in Eclipse. Matlab’s revision going on for the exam,I have been banging head, learning Digital Sound and Music as if I 'll become a singer some day, burrr. I am glad for enjoying OpenGL more than Matlab. Now this tells me, i shall join gaming industry, lol.
That means you haven’t done graphics development? or you used Flash ?
A friendly question to the game developers, what kind of GUI design you like to see in the game? A straight forward design or full instructions for the user?
That was a project for my AI class. There was no graphics development in it, there was no graphic interface. It was just a simple console interface, where the user had no more input than starting the process, which would interact with the server on its own. The professor developed the server. We simply developed the client programs to interact with it.
I’ve done modeling elsewhere, but did not use the models in games. As far as graphics for games, I’ve some simple sprite/texture animations.
That totally depends on the type of game. Something mostly straightforward. However, instructions should be available when required. A game that did it really well was Final Fantasy VII. It gave you options to skip tutorials if you knew how to do the stuff. If not, it presented them in a way that didn’t hinder gameplay.
You should. It’s a little tricky but it’s fun when you get the hang of it.
Like CO said, if the game is simple.. no 3D involvement then there’s no need for a full instruction manual.. but if you’re developing something like Mortal Combat or Racing games.. then you need to give instructions. The pop up instructions are cool too.. like the ones that show up during the games.
haha I’m glad you’re enjoying. Eclipse eh? Nice. I’ve never really worked on it as such.. what language are you using? Java?
