That's nice. It's fun to get to know how these things are working at the back end right?
Well a CS degree will give you some sort of idea. For me it was more about how at one point I couldn't get a simple program to work. These guys are making something a lot more complex.
It depends on the type of game. Simple games like Angry Birds can be addictive and are fun to mess around with, while more complex ones like RPGs and shooters are immersive and let you interact with the world. Games like Mass Effect, while heavy on melodrama sometimes, are better written than most movies and online shooters let you play with friends, in scenarios which are totally unrealistic.
My dad is more familiar with many people in my generation playing video games in university and beyond, but my mom finds the whole idea very strange.
Angry Birds is very addictive. I had never thought a birdy game would get such a huge stature in my life.
I’m like your mom.. playing complex games and enjoying them.. the idea seems very foreign to me. I don’t get it. So I’m gonna take her side. =D
I have seen students around here design and play games too.. and then they have competitions too. They have so much fun when playing.. not so much designing them though.
I developed a few games too back in the day. But still no liking to play them. =(
I've tried some game development as a hobby. I haven't been able to dedicate as much time as I would have liked. I got some simple working prototypes that I developed with XNA/C#. I haven't been able to do anything beyond that though I'd like to someday.
im not a gaymar coz i get annoyed if i die and have to do the exact same bunch of things to get to the same state. that and i have the attention span of a small bird.
I developed some in C#. Image processing scenerios/games with MATLAB are fun to develop. Ever worked with it?
I haven't done anything in Matlab as far as game development goes. I've used it only in the lab for certain CS courses, but that's it. So what kind of games have you developed?
Same , I didn’t know you could develop games in Matlab. Was it complicated or easy? So far,I have learned to develop games in Flash only. Right now, we are doing a game project ,for that we are using a software called Stencyl.
Has any of you developed games in OpenGL or with UNITY?
I developed a game playing agent for an AI project a long time ago. It was in Java. Apart from that, I’ve been able to make stuff like hangman. With XNA I’ve developed some 2D sprite based stuff. Not something I could call a game, but more like a prototype.
Because I’m a boss at Tetris, Solitaire, Mah Jong and any Mario Bros game ever created!!
Racing/ car games I like to pretend like I know what I’m doing and make ‘vroom’ sounds when i’m “driving”.
FPS, not a good idea. I get scared when someone comes at me or pops up out of no where… and end up throwing the controller at the TV or who ever I’m playing against. Too realistic for me! (That includes N64’s Golden Eye - 007.)
