Why are most of us here? Why do we spend so much time on GS? Do we come here for advice on problems we are too embarassed to discuss face to face? Are we socially retarted? Are we just simply bored at work?

Every so many months I will have this gup shup dhor...then I'll disappear for months (and guppies start thinking I'm finally gone..), only to reappear. heeheehee.
Why are most of us here? Why do we spend so much time on GS?
^I think it has to do with the format of GS. I've seen other desi forums such as ratedesi.com (gag) which are not comprehensive....not clean either. This a fairly comprehensive website...pretty clean....lots of interests to choose from....and you get along with most of the people.
Do we come here for advice on problems we are too embarassed to discuss face to face? Are we socially retarted? Are we just simply bored at work?
^I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Reason being that sometimes our friends and family might give us biased advice. They may defend us even if we're wrong. Or they may be more concerned with their own interests and their advice could be biased that way as well. On a forum with strangers......you don't owe them anything......they don't owe you anything....and they may even be able to look at an issue more clearly even.
Socially retarded? It could be the case, not necessarily. If you have have friends outside of GS....that you interact with and have a healthy relationship with....if you're able to form healthy relationships at work as well.....then I don't think you're socially retarded. One might even think that you are a person who has a DIVERSE circle of friends......which includes not only friends you interact with face-to face.....but also through other mediums such as the Internet. And diverse can be good and healthy....it can develop your personality/mind. Of course....everything in moderation.
*Bored at work? During my spare time at work...I might take a break and log in for a few minutes and then go back to grading my papers. *

I had been a visitor to GS for a long time (maybe a few years) and I would search for threads that would be relevant to issues/questions that I had. Sometimes I would read the topic and feel like giving input....but for some reason it took me ages before I decided to become a member (not sure why I hesitated). I guess I like analyzing issues and I thought that I'd be good at giving advice/helping people. That was one reason I wanted to join. And I wanted to join in the event I wanted anonymous advice. Those were the two main reasons for joining and then gradually...as you become comfortable with the format/people....you log in to take a break/socialize as well.

Gulab jamun I do the same thing. I disappeared for almost a year... and than decided to log back on.

Don't know what? Why people come here? It's not like there's just one reason for that. Could be several reasons. There are people who are not members of an online forum.....and they STILL struggle with confronting people in their life about issues that they have. You don't need to be a member of a social forum to have problems in your life or issues with socializing.

Some of them disappear not because they've been banned...and not because they wanted to take a break from GS.....but because X2 stalked them and kidnapped em.
He makes his list (of member names)
Checks it twice (like Santa Clause...but without the presents)
And then he tracks you down.
And then......................you get crossed of the list (gulp).

there’s security yes, but it really depennds on how we are…you can get advice over here(esp life1) about issues that you may find it difficult to actually discuss with people in real life..or discuss things, fight over it and then have a nice time around where as in real life some whackos might physically abuse you for not agreeing with them, get violent etc:smack:…then there’s this whole bit of a virtual social life thing (esp for losers who cant make friends in real life)…good for those interested in making friends from different backgrounds or maybe for those want to know more about cultures and all…
