Malaysia - Sharab is common.
Dubai - Sharab is common in toursit areas.
Bahrain - Anything and everything goes openly, a big ayashi spot.
Most middle eastern countries - Their TV is almost like Bollywood movies.
Pakistan - Sharab restricted. Until recently TV couldn’t even show revealing clothes. Anything goes, but hidden. Pakistan cannot hold the outdoor shows that we see happen in Dubai, and it’s not an ayashi ka garh.
Why is it like that? Pakistanis have had more direct Western influence than any of those countries. How did places like Bahrain and Dubai “madrenize” so fast? How can the “anything goes” attitude be ok by the locals over there? Don’t you think some of them get irritated by it?
Sharab is openly available in Dubai, and available in Pakistan as well. Cafe's like costra nostra in Lahore allow to bring u're own and if u pay they'll order it for u as well. These days even in Pakistani drama's u'll get to see the characters drinking. Some parties in Lahore can really shock u, the clothes that people are wearing sigh
Some of the Christmas Balls and Fall Dances are shown, and if u tune into FTV u can get a glimpse of it all =)

Yes, but there are still restrictions. Are there open bars in Pakistan where you don't have to be a member? Are there bars at Karachi airport? Are there night clubs in Pakistan full of "Russian women" (Dubai is known for it's "Russian women"). Are there websites dedicated to the Lahore night club and bar scene?
U never mentioned if they were out in the open or hush hush =) plenty of websites that advertise Pakistani females and escorts, bootleggers. If u step into costra nostra u dont have to be a member...if u visit gymkhana u dont need to be a member either to obtain alcohol.
These "russian" women can also be found in Islamabad and Lahore..as well as Chinese. There are enff clubs in Lhr, Isb and Khi where u will find such a crowd.
The only things that don't happen in Pak are people out in shorts and mini-skirts, but they can be seen at any after-party or party.
Really drinking happens in Pakistan you just need to know where to go and it happens openly in certain restaurants. Of course there are concerts and big parties but the do not get advertised in mainstream media.
You know you should see what some people wear and you think god am i really in Pakistan. Youwon't see things in the open but it is there if you look hard enough. Yep there are plenty of shows like they do in Dubai but on the basis of invitation only.
I think Pakistan TV is getting like Zee TV and Lollywood films are similar to Bollywood.About Achohol and escort serivce they are all available in Pakistan in big hotels.Aajkal pak mein kaya kaya nahi ho raha and about dress they are getting shorter day by day. What else do you want?Pakistan cannot hold outdoor shows because their country is famous for “terrorism”.Even they cannot have cricket in their own country. Or chori to itni common hai ke sab apnay mulk ko hi loot rahey hain ab batao Pakistan kis lehaaz se peechay hai :aq:
Re: Why are some things not OK in Pakistan, but OK in other Muslim countries?
OK, you guys yourself are pointing out that everything goes in Pakistan, but doesn't happen in the open. For example

Why do you need to know where it is happening? Why is it not like Dubai or Malaysia? Something must be different about Pakistani mentality that these things are not advertised out in the open. Is the environment in Pakistan just like Dubai or Malaysia when it comes to drinking and partying?
Can anyone go get alcohol in Dubai? Yes. Can anyone get alcohol in Pakistan? That depends on whom you know. And we are not talking bhung or something.
I am not saying anything. I am trying to find out why somethings are OK in one country, but not in the other?
Pakistan went through a lot of cultural changes to get to where it is, negative or positive. Every country went through that. There were probably no open strip clubs in US in 1862, nor did women wear mini skirts in public in 1902 UK. Cultural changes had to happen before it became ok.
What cultural changes did places like Dubai and Bahrain went through in their short existence that drinking and partying are completly ok.
Re: Why are some things not OK in Pakistan, but OK in other Muslim countries?
tdw if dubai and malayshia are naked , than .you want to be naked, what do you think? if you want to drink go buy and drink ,, why you r questioning about all sharif group of pk,,, maybe you thiking and dubai ;malayashia 's thinking are same, if some gory ary eating pigs next you will say to allow in pak too, every country has its own roles like every family has own ,,,,hope you will not mind

Firstly you need to consider this Malaysia and Dubai have a very large tourist industry and the majority of tourists are non-Muslim so they require drink etc . So it is in the open but it would not be tolerated if Muslims got caught drinking, you need to remember these countries have separate laws regarding Muslims and other religious groups. In Malaysia a Muslim must follow sharia law, it is different for non-Muslims. Regarding alcohol in Dubai you need an alcohol licence to buy it and these are issued to non Muslims. So if your a sister or brother and get caught you are gonna do time (Muslims might and try to hide behind American or British passport). Prostitution is not tolerated for e.g a non Muslim British man and women caught having sex on a beach in Dubai and got sent to prison. The only people that get away with stuff in those countries have money and connections. An ordinary joe like me or you would be in jail.
Secondly Pakistan interoperates Sharia and civil law it is neither one or the other. It does not have a large tourist population which consists of non-Muslims so the law is the same for everyone. In Pakistan alcohol is forbidden if you have money and frequent high paying restaurants/ hotels you can get anything you need if you have money.
Thirdly it is an open secret not something that goes on underground. If you are poor and get caught it is straight to prison . If not then people are gonna turn a blind eye. Also concerts and stuff did happen openly with TV etc before the suicide bombs (i saw one happening when my uncle drove me and my cousins around some big park in Lahore). Also anyone can get girls. boys, drugs, guns, alcohol etc you go out on the street and ask someone they will take you there all you need is to be streetwise and then your all fixed up.
In the pretext of cloths we don't have nice beaches in Pakistan and if you are gonna wear anything more revealing outside it is not against the law but all those men who stare at a women covered head to toe are gonna die of heart attacks considering the typical pakistani diet.
Umm in Pak u don't need "connections" to obtain alcohol..all the brands and bottles, u name it! Dubai is 80% expats..majority Americans, British, Indians, Russians..and to them any social event is incomplete without alcohol.
I dont get it. Do you WANT all this in Pakistan? You want the country to go down the drain with western philosophies and culture? We should be praising Pakistan for not having these things, not encourage it. All these things are Islamically wrong, so THAT why Pakistan doesnt have these things. If these other "Muslim" countries would like to openly disobey Islamic teachings then thats their problem. It doesnt mean Pakistan should follow suit.

From what you said in your post, or what i "figure" you said from your post, i agree with you. Kinda bit hard to understand what you wrote, but i get the jist and I agree..... (you dont need four comma's to break a sentance.... just advise..)

What a silly question. Let me ask you a question. Why do some countries have black people and others have white? Why “somethings are OK in one country, but not the other?” Dude. Every country as a different predominent religion, culture, way of life, language, history, political structure and so on. Pakistan is considered a Muslim dominated country. America is considered a Christian dominated country, where alcohol is not forbidden. Pakistan is a secular state, however just for that reason it doesnt mean everthing elese should be followed according to other secular states! Geeeeez.

You cannot place “DUBAI” in the same context as the rest of the Middle East. Dubai was primarily built up as a commercial tourist magnet. Thats the whole reason for its existence. It is a man made tourist destination and it has to cater to tourists from different parts of the world, which is why alcohol and other things are so freely allowed.
Umm... have you ever been to this place, dear? where do you get your 'majority americans' fact?
Out of 80% expat community, 70% is indian... 60% indian labourers, chai shops, etc. 15% local arabs, 7% pakistanis. 5% of these pakistanis are cab drivers. and the remaining 8% or so are russians, philipinos, europeans, americans and other nationalities.
Umm in Pak u don't need "connections" to obtain alcohol..all the brands and bottles, u name it! Dubai is 80% expats..majority Americans, British, Indians, Russians..and to them any social event is incomplete without alcohol.
Rainday, wahwah, and everyone else, thank you for your insight. I understand that Dubai and Malaysia are big tourist spots, and without having the things that make tourism attractive for Westerners, all these things exist.
Ok so tell me one thing. What do the locals in Dubai say about all of this? I imagine Dubai locals are as allah walay as Pakistanis. Just look at this thread, I mentioned the work alcohol and three people came in saying how we shouldn't have it in Pakistan and how it's wrong. Now, don't the locals over there say the same thing? What is their attitude towards it when they drive by a fancy 5 star hotel and bar?
Whenever they decided to start builing these bars and clubs, didn't their people say something? Don't they have mullah types over there who get on the mic and scream like they do in Pakistan?
BTW, these "Muslims can't do this, but non Muslims can" laws are silly. Either have a law for all, or don't have it for anyone.
