ive always been bemused by this..so many muslims who are also Indian have a deep sense of national affiliation to India despite the fact that muslims are widely persecuted in India and are victims to genocide and rape… many of these Indian muslims are overjoyed with yesterdays Lahore attrocities…its funny cos if you ask Hindu Indians(who consider themselves the ‘proper’ Indians, becos its ‘their’ Hindustan, which translates into lands of Hindus)they consider Indian muslims as muslims and not Indian 'nationals’The way Muslims in India are proud of ‘India’ would be equivalent to Muslims who live in Israel, considering themselves as ‘proud Israelites’ despite them being them being 2nd class citizens.. which is hardly the case..Im not religious, but doesnt Islam also forbid nationalism? how are these people gonna choose a peice of land over their faith?answers…

"Hindustan" was a term used for pre-partition India. It included everyone from pashtoons to nagas to tamils. So you are wrong to say that "Hindustan" refers to a country of "Hindus" in the religious sense.
as for equating india with israel, no. israel was a country made for people of one religion. i wonder how many other such countries exist today.
Look, Indian Muslims love India because they are loyal to their country.

Guys… I moved the thread from PA “Pakistan Affairs” ¶ to “World Affairs” (WA).
First of all, it’s not like all or only Indian muslims get raped or are victims of genocide. A lot of hindus and sikhs and christians are also victims of that in India. Muslims in India coexist with other religions and are doing quite well. If there are poor muslims, there are poor hindus as well. So what should these muslims do? Fight for another independent state or move to Pakistan or Bangladesh?

In 1947, Muslims had a choice. Those who could not co-exist with Hindus decided to form their own country - Pakistan. Those that stayed back were happy co-existing with Hindus the way they had done for ages.
Pakistani Muslims are Muslims first & Pakistani later. Indian Muslims are Indian first. Thats the basic difference between the mindset of Indian & Pakistani muslims.

Totally disagree with your post, who cares why Indian muslims support India. It's their country and have every right to be Patriotic Indians. One thing i HATE about Indian muslims (talking from personal experience) is that they usually go beyond limits to criticise/bash Pakistanis to prove it to hindus that they are proud Indians. As a result 90% of my Indian friends are hindus, we just keep quiet on controversial issues and enjoy good friendship. Although i have few Indian muslims friends as well but MOST of them ae PLAIN idiots, they don't really miss ANY chance to bash pakistanis especially in front of non muslims Indians.

You are absolutely right and this is the fact Indian Muslims are way broad-minded and matured than Pakistani Muslims coz they think about their country first and then rest of the things come later.

ive always wondered on this topic also.. i consider myself british but i am also a muslim, these two identities co-exist. I think the problem indian muslims have is that they have to prove their indian-ness so that they can live in peace. if you listen to alot of the filmstars in India, when there is a new movie about interracial marriage/love story - you will always hear the cast members highlight that he/she is playing a muslim... the hindu indian sees the muslim indian as a muslim, fullstop. Indian muslims need to stop being apologetic about their faith and assume what is rightfully theirs - their right to be in India, and they neednt carry their patriatism on their sleeves to prove that they are hindustani - heck my dad was born in england, so was I, my family has been here since the 1940's, but you wont catch me shouting from the rooftops, god save the queen - i have a right to my opinion without having to prove my britishness - the benefits of a true democracy.

That's exactly the reason, the best way to prove Indian-ness is by hating Pakistan and that's what they always try to do.
Best example is a recent rally against Israeli attack on Gaza where they were burning Pakistani flags to make sure hindus are happy with them( Why on earth would burn Pakistani flag when you are protecting against Israelis?????).

A true muslim is a muslim first and foremost.
His/her creed dictates everyhting. Islam is a way of life, an identity as well as a belief.
I do not agree with those among our people who strive for nationalism, Islam should come first!
Feel free to call me a zealot, a fanatic, a desperado, a spartacus if you will but the truth be told i am only doing my duty as a Muslim.
For me i am Muslim first, then Pakistani, then whatever else.
My beliefs may be extreme but they are no different from what is pointed out in the Koran and Sunnah.
As for separate national identities…
I respect we cannot all work together. That won’t stop me from striving for peace.
However i am a strict adherent of my faith, i will tolerate amny things… I cannot tolerate calling anybody else Lord.
Only Allah:subhanahu: and his Messenger:saw2: are my Lord. I have no respect for any country’s prescribed laws. The Law of Rasoolallah is my Law.
The same applies to country boundaries i respect patriots.
Indian Muslims i respect, they are my brothers, however it is thier choice to pick and choose what side they follow.
They like any sibling i am compelled to love. It doesn’t stop me from thinking well of them. But if a Muslim brother of mine ever thought about betraying our deen…
This is a matter i dare not contemplate. In Islamic law itself this is a gray area.
Indian Muslims have my respect,
if they choose to bash fellow Muslims however then i see them as misguided pests.
May Allah help us all come to the right path.
