Majority of the 'Indian' restaurants in the UK are owned by Bengalis. I was told by someone that during the British rule in India; a lot of Muslims from what is now Pakistan served in the British Army as soldiers. Muslims from what became Bangladesh used to be employed as cooks in the forces and when these immigrants started arriving in the UK they carried on with the cooking tradition.
It is amazing where these 'Indian' restaurants owned by the Bangladeshi's can be found in the UK even in remote areas such as the Welsh Valleys etc.

have any of you really eaten bengali food ??? if no how come you can judge it ??? and for your kind information,to someone who said bengalis cant make indian food,bengali cusin is very much part of the whole indian cusin itself. there are bengalis on both side of the border of the indo-bangladesh line. its something like punjabis being in both India and pakistan.
and as i have seen above,the food items you mentioned above are punjabi. like tikka etc etc. well as a bong is horrible in making punjabi food,so is a punjabi terrible in making bong food !

There is a specific spice that Bengalis use to make their food taste like that - dont know what the spice is, but its that stale "yellow" taste - thats the only way I can descrbe it...

I have eaten numerous Bangladeshi dishes and it is very distinctive. It is perfectly understandable how many people may dislike it. I Love the way they cook kaleejies however, I am not a fan of much else.

some one posted mush pic in front of the big pot or whatever that was. well macher jhol is not made in such big urns ,ok ??
and the yellow spice used in bangali cusin is mustard .
and one thing,bong food is not only about fish and rice. that proves you have not have much of bengali cusin.

I noted one interesting thing in London - I did not find a single Pakistani owned resturant over there with the name of "Pakistan' or "Pakistani Resturant"! I came accroos with things like "Punjab House, Lahore Karahi, Lahori Chef, Lahore Dreams" etc. But not a single "Pakistani" resturant!

becoz they cook good. and no ones knows what bengali food is, and indian food is seen as very trendy in england so all the bengali restaurants market themselves as indian
I went there… dont remember how the food was though
