Re: Why a writer write?

I don't consider myself a writer. But glad to provide input. Can you clarify what you mean by economic conditions of writer. Do u want to know if a writer writes due to his or her economic conditions? To put food on table.

Or do u simply want to know what makes the writer write. Period.

Re: Why a writer write?

Writers are also living on same earth as rest of us.
They do have family too... They support them.
Writing is profession. They use their skill and transform critical issues, ideas, social issues into writing. They use their best to convey idea.
Modern medium of communication also open global audience. Journalist in Pakistan can write an article for news paper in US.

Re: Why a writer write?

good points. Any writers, who you think have made a change?

Re: Why a writer write?

Do you think writing can be adapted as a profession in countries like Pakistan? Pakistan, where, literacy rates are low and people normally avoid going to libraries or you can see more people in a lawn sale than a book fair.

Re: Why a writer write?

A writer in Pakistan can write story books in English.

Re: Why a writer write?

No these are just random points.

Re: Why a writer write?

then? :hmmm:

why can’t we find out a Paulo Coelho in Pakistan then suggesting that our writers should write in English?

Re: Why a writer write?

Because they are good with words like I have been good with Accounting :)

Re: Why a writer write?

Just having command over words make a person writer? I mean thats his / her capability, but do we all utilise our capabilities and pursue it as a career?

Re: Why a writer write?

Generally, I don't know
Personally, I took my capabilities as career :)

Re: Why a writer write?

But accounting is so 'baniya' passion and profession in its very roots :p

Re: Why a writer write?

There are so many influential Urdu writers:

Bano Qudsia (famous for "Raja Gidh" - roughly translated as kingdom of vultures. Among other topics, the novel deals with people exploiting society and religion to get rich, and the consequences of their actions.)

Ashfaq Ahmed (famous for "Zavia", a very intellectual read, where he shares his philosophies, experiences and words of wisdom.)

Fatima Surayya Bajia (another household name) Some of her popular work includes Shama, Afshaan, Aroosa, and Ana. She is popularly regarded as an intellectual and feminist.

Manto is another popular one. He wrote extensively about the post-partition violence and the state of affairs between India and Pakistan. Thanda gosht, Toba Tek Singh, Khol Do - all showcase some of the tensions of the people caught in the independence struggle.

Deputy Nazeed Ahmed wrote Mirat-ul-Uroos which essentially focuses on women's education and character building. The novel has sold more than 100,000 copies since its publication and has been translated in numerous other languages.

Qudrat Ullah Shahab (best known for "Shahab Nama") - it is an autobiography that details the political happenings of his time and his own spiritual journey from a young boy to a man of power.
